    no more, no less.
In 1994, the autopsy into Presley's death was re-opened. Coroner Dr. Joseph Davis declared: "There is nothing in any of the data that supports a death from drugs [i.e. drug overdose]. In fact, everything points to a sudden, violent heart attack." However, there is little doubt that long-term drug abuse caused his premature death."

Do you ever wonder why no one reads past the first autopsy ?

Not really, I think many have just never heard of this 1994 re-opening of the autopsy by Tennessee. Its not mentioned in most books.

I've never heard of this, but, then again, I doubt that it would change much information from the first one.

Well, technically--it's the same autopsy. Just different "official "opinions.
I guess I can't stand it if some new information comes out and I don't see what it is. It has been over 30 years and so much more is known about lots of things, but especially in medicine. I'm glad you keep reminding others.

When you play Las Vegas and Tahoe and one nighters in the same towns you've played many times before, in a white jumpsuit, how can you not get discouraged, It wasn't just Priscilla, he got tired of being Elvis, he had nothing to look forward to, something to juice him up..and he never got that challenge he needed something like that in the end. He had so much to give, and here he hits the floor and dies by himself, such a horrible tragedy

I could never understand why Elvis did get rid of the Col. In the 70's especially the col was holding him back. Elvis was a complex man. You can never figure out what was going through his mind.

I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song." - Elvis Presley

Colonel got Elvis when he was a kid, and guided him to the top of the world, I would be alittle affraid to leave Colonel as well if i had been there, but theres to many what if's in the elvis world far to depressing I just apprecaite the great and kind and warm spirit Elvis was and love him for all he gave us and enjoy the music!!

Yeah I enjoy the music and movies Elvis left us, but it isnt terrible to think how much better he could have been. He could have even recorded better music, think of Elvis singing "Imagine"? That would be great.

True. I first learned of it when I read Down At The End of Lonely Street.

You really need to read Down At The End of Lonely Street, it's a very good book for the most part. Probably one of the better ones out there. There are a few things in it that are questionable, but that seems to hold true with each book.

Maybe - but have a heart for a minute and wonder why Elvis got caught in the spiral of drugs. There wasn't the support and recognition of depression as an illness in the 1970s and he clearly was under pressures that most of us will never experience.
I'm on anti-depressants. There you go!
Does that make me a "drug addict"? Probably, because i get dizzy if i don't take my tablets but they are only a small dose and as my doctor says `what makes you right, keeps you right' when i ask to go off them.
At one stage i was regularly taking sleeping medication as well but it was partly recognising the downward spiral of Elvis that helped me get off them.
So all you high and mighty people who have never taken a pill or a joint or a glass of alcohol think for a minute before you cast your stones.
Sorry if i've ranted but as an Elvis fan i have an understanding and compassion for what he went through.

    great post
no one could possibly understand how much pressure Elvis was under - ALL OF THE TIME! He was forced to live up to a "god-like" image and he did his best to make everyone happy

The meds Elvis took helped him deal with the stress. they took the edge off.
unfortunately, over time those meds dont work as well and they are very hard on the body. by the time 1975 rolled around, he couldn't function without them. In addition to that, he was on MORE meds to treat health problems caused by years of abuse.

on top of that, the man was booked for tour after tour and by 1977, wouldn't have even made it on stage without these meds.

people are very unforgiving when it comes to Elvis and his later years. i think its because they hold him to such a higher standard. He wasnt just another entertainer, he was E L V I S
he kept it together for so long, that when he finally started showing cracks in his armor, it was unacceptable.

I don't see how anyone can say the drugs had nothing to do with his pre-mature death....

I think the pills have the big effect on elvis death, you can`t abuse your body and expect everything to ok
