It's a totally different story of what is in Jerry's book. They basically had gone out to get groceries but Elvis was still sleeping and Elvis woke up and none of the guys were there and he needed some things himself and he called a cab. Sonny and the rest of the guys arrived just as the cab pulled up to the gate.
And Mike? You are right. The DVD is very well done and respectfully done in regards to Elvis's memory. Say what you will, but Sonny truly loved Elvis and still does to this day. I wouldn't hesitate to shake his hand and thank him for sharing his recountings of his time with the greatest star of the 20th century---ELVIS AARON PRESLEY.

You will have to forgive me for not remembering all of the details, but basically Sonny tells the story like this:
Elvis was out in California and all of the guys were gone doing various errands, so when Elvis woke up, he was all alone in the house. Elvis decided he wanted to go somewhere (shopping I think) and since none of the guys were there, he decided to call a taxi. He couldn't find the number for one, and after trying to convince the phone operator who he was and what he wanted, they finally put him in touch with a cab company. Elvis then proceeded to ask for a cab to come and get him, but the guy from the cab company didn't believe that it was Elvis Presley on the phone. Elvis then spent the next few minutes trying to convince the guy that he was in fact Elvis Presley. The guy told Elvis he would send someone over but that he had better be there (thinking that it was a prank call).
When the cab arrived, the driver was calling Elvis' name and Elvis was standing on the other side of the fence telling the driver that he was there but according to Sonny, Elvis didn't know how to open the gate to the property to get out to the cab. Sonny said that it was just as the cab driver was getting ready to leave when he came back to the house and Elvis could hear Sonny questioning the driver as to why he was there. Sonny said that Elvis said something along the lines of "Sonny, open this g**d**n gate" and when Sonny opened the gate, the cab driver saw that it really was Elvis Presley! Although Elvis didn't need the cab anymore, he told Sonny to give him some money for coming out.
That is basically the story....as I said, I've only seen the DVD a couple of times so far, so I may have left something out or gotten something wrong with the story but this was basically the story he told.
Hope you guys enjoyed it!
TCB!

Oh My that was really funny...jsut imagine the frustration Elvis felt, first no one believed it was him when he tried to explain it to them and to top it off once he did convince them it was Elvis he couldn't get the dang gate open to get to the cab !! What a story thanks Mike!!![]()

Some people just won't let go or forgive and forget, will they? I, for one, cannot understand the bitterness and absolute and uncalled for hatred that some people feel against the Wests' (and Dave Hebler) after so many years. How would any one here feel if they were unceremoniuously dumped from their jobs without a proper explanation as to why you were fired and only given three days notice and a weeks pay after 16-20 years on the job?? I'd be pretty PO'd, myself. If you don't think Sonny cared at all for Elvis, read the chapter where he describes his reaction upon hearing of Elvis's death.
I shall say nothing further.....
*sigh*
Oh, Mister T...I like you........but my opinion is so at the very other end of the spectrum from yours on this one!
I will never forget you Rosanne.

Oh dear, dear, dear....I have to say that when it comes to the West boys and ol' Hebler, well, I just think that the "bitterness" and "hatred" are just deserves for the little tell-all book they did as a means of revenge. JMO...but I think that the mere fact that they turned on Elvis in such a way has permanently soiled them in the eyes of many of the fans. I sure don't "hate" them...but I have nothing for them either. I just think that the untimely death of Elvis kinda put a damper on what they had set out to do with that little book. They wanted to defame Elvis...put a halt to his fame...take away the admiration of the fans. But, when he died, it backfired on them! He INSTANTLY became more famous post-humous, and more adored in some ways! And the thought that these "friends" of Elvis' could turn on him at the very end of his life was an unforgiveable sin to many, many fans.

And although you and I don't agree on this one, I still love ya....![]()
Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..
I'm sorry but Elvis went to his Grave knowing what these scumbags did to him. That must have it him really bad.I know if my friends of 20 odd years had done that to me i'd be devastated i bet Elvis was.And for that i can never forgive them (not that they want it anyway).![]()
This is ALWAYS a hot topic, and something that's not going to change anytime soon. I have figured out this much though.....take a look at the age division. It seems that 99% of us that were of a decent age in 1977 can NOT stand them. By the same token....99% of those that were too young to read the book in 1977 or weren't born yet feel it's time to forgive and forget. Me??? I fall into the older crowd of course.![]()
