Arrow If Elvis were still alive today would he..........

If Elvis were still alive would he be a Scientologist?

I saw this posted today on IMDB and I thought it would be a good topic for this forum. I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed before.

“(If Elvis were still alive would he) be a Scientologist? Since most of the “Stars” that have converted to the “Religion” did after he died he didn’t get a chance to be brainwashed like Priscilla and Lisa Marie were. If he had lived would Elvis have converted too? What do you think?”

So, what do you all think??

Nope! Elvis knew what it was before he died and he did not want any part of it.

nope i dont think he would have changed out of all the different religons he looked into they never changed his mind about his own religion he was a true beleiver and had great faith as i understand it and it had stayed with him throught his life

No, I remember reading in some biography that he went to find out what the religion was all about. He came out of there saying that they were only after his money. If he were going to be a Scientologist he would have already been one. I'm not trying to put anybody's religious beliefs down but as far as I'm concerned from my Judeo/Christian point of view that like Elvis being from the southern United States grew up on, it would be hard to convert to a religion like that. I'm a very open minded guy and have studied many religions although I know I'm no expert. In fact, on a side note I would HIGHLY recommend a book called "The History Of God" to shed some light on how the three main religions came to be and split off...etc. Also for those of you who haven't gotten a chance yet I would read Elvis's favorite "The Impersonal Life". I find it gives me peace in many ways. However back to Scientology, when we start talking about spaceships...etc that's where they start losing me. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where he kind of went "What am I doing here?".

I have to agree with you. Dianetics was a pretty good book .
IMO, it was more of a "self-help" book.
It was when Hubbard got off into spaceships and Thetians, etc. he lost me .
It's very hard for me to think that intelligent people can go along with some of that . To each his own.

I for one think that Elvis wouldn't have converted either. Isn't there a famous Elvis quote that states his thoughts on scientology?

A few years back I looked for "The Impersonal Life" Where could I find it?

According to former Elvis crony Lamar Fike, Elvis stopped dating "Mod Squad" star Peggy Lipton because she kept trying to get him to join the church. "One day, in L.A., we got in the limousine and went down to the Scientology center on Sunset, and Elvis went in and talked to them," Fike said in "Elvis Aaron Presley: Revelations from the Memphis Mafia," one of several sources who say that Presley didn't like Scientology. "We waited in the car, but apparently they started doing all these charts and crap for him. Elvis came out and said, 'F - - - those people! There's no way I'll ever get involved with that son-of-a-*****in' group. All they want is my money.' . . . He stayed away from Scientology like it was a cobra. He'd s - - t a brick to see how far Lisa Marie's gotten into it."

    naaaah...maybe not....?

Well, Elvis was a good ol' southern baptist like myself.....but he sort of drifted from that a little bit due to the unanswerable questions that clogged his head latter on in his career. i personally think he might have looked into it, and gave some of his attention to it to see what it was all about...because he was verry curious about things-especially religion-but in the end i believe he would have ran back to his christian roots.

Tom Cruise pretty well tells me anything and everything I need to know about Scientology. And don't you love the fact that the MORE money you have the further up their ladder you will go.

not only would Elvis NOT be into Scientology, but he would have prevented Lisa and 'Cilla from being brainwashed. i still can't believe those two have fallen into that crap.

wasn't Elvis Pentacostal/Assembly of God? i never heard of him being Baptist.

You're right. Elvis was raised in the Pentacostal Church. His aunt Nash was a minister . |
    http://www.pentecostalive.com/articles.html

Elvis Presley’s Pentecostal roots were deep. His parents met in a Pentecostal church. His great-uncles co-pastored one. Elvis was baptized in one when he was about 9.

He was re-baptized in another one a few years later, according to Rev. Rex Dyson, still preaching Pentecostal revivals at age 100.

Dyson said he re-baptized Elvis and his parents, Vernon and Gladys, in Memphis sometime around 1950.

I was raised in a much more "liberal" church.
I did have an ex- wife whose father was a minister in Church of God . I attended with her many times and studied many religions.
IMO, that doesn't make you a "bad boy", just interested in finding the truth and getting closer with God. But, EP's early up-bringing and his music was influenced by Petacostal and "shake rag" music, as some called it.
He seemed to love the black gospel sings --and who can blame him?
I did as well, and there was a "black church" just down the road from the church I attended as a child. We'd sneak out and sit on the steps listening to them. It was great, IMO !!

You haven't truly lived and experienced God and gospel music until you have been to a "black funeral". They are one of a kind.

just to add i saw this on t.v about this religion and it just seems to be some guy who runs it and takes in donations and they beleive in spaceships and other strange sorts i think its more of a cult than a religion but it has celebs so people decide to go along its like sheep they all follow on and in my opinon elvis was his own man and not one to follow the crowd so he would probably have stuck to what he knew best i don't think he would have approved of lisa and cilla getting involved in all this but again its each to there own and if them folks are happy to beleive in all this then who are we to stop them

    .

Scientology is not a religion; it is a cult. So the religous angle here is rendered moot.

Elvis wasn't the smartest guy around, but he was clever enough to see through their money-oriented BS quick smart.

I think he'd be very worried that Lisa (and Cilla) are members of this insidious organisation.

I wish the internet group "Anonymous" every success in trying to expose these parasites.
