Speed Racer, The Legend
Japanese anime pioneer Tatsou Yoshida originally created Go Mifune (Speed Racer) based on the inspiration from the popular movies and icons of the time.
The look of Speed Racer was said to be influenced greatly from Elvis Presley’s character of “Lucky Jackson” in Viva Las Vegas. Also, the technology loaded Aston Martin from the James Bond film Goldfinger is believed to be the catalyst for the Mach 5 car design. Known for the oversized eyes of its characters and quirky paced dialog, Speed Racer is a retro classic for adults and a favorite among kids today.
Since the days of the original series, Speed Racer has made a few comeback appearances including The New Adventures of Speed Racer, Speed Racer X, and a flash based web-only series called Speed Racer Lives. This year will be a huge year for the racing action favorite with the release of Speed Racer the Movie, and a new animated series, Speed Racer, that will debut on the Nicktoons Network in May 2008.
