Elvis Still The Tops For Autograph Hunters.

ELVIS PRESLEY's autograph is still a top scribble, according to Autograph Magazine's annual list of rock 'n' roll signatures.

At prices of up to $25,000 (£12,500), the King's autograph is still a hot item to collectors, over 30 years after his death.

Beatle Sir Paul McCartney's signature comes in at number two on the new Top 10 Rockin' Buys list, compiled by expert Roger Epperson, and Aerosmith combined are third.

But Autograph magazine editor Steve Cyrkin urges fans to be careful when buying the star's scribbles.

He says, "Watch out, there are forgeries abound, and not just on the internet
. We've found galleries with more forged than authentic autographs, particularly in tourist destinations.

"Get a second opinion from a respected music autograph expert, or get yours authenticated by a reputable autograph authentication service." Autograph Magazine's Top 10 Rock 'n' Roll buys are:

    1. Elvis Presley
    2. Sir Paul McCartney
    3. Aerosmith
    4. Eric Clapton
    5. AC/DC
    6. Bob Dylan
    7. Jimmy Page
    8. Sir Elton John
    9. Eddie Van Halen
    10. B.B. King

Elvis is one of the few [if not only one] entertainers that gave out autographs freely - as he said "if they can get to me, I'll sign an autograph". He stood in front of Graceland, on Audubon, in Hollywood, in Germany, in Vegas, Hawaii, everywhere for long periods of time autographing anything put in front of him. I'm amazed that his autographs are so sought after - they surely aren't rare! And by rare, I mean that there are a numbered quantity in existence.
This makes me proud that he is so sought after - after all these years!

Just pretend, I'm holding you, and whispering things soft and low.
And think of me, how it's gonna be and just pretend I didn't go

I sent Elvis' A&R man Steve Sholes a book on New Zealand to give to Elvis back in the mid 60's, along with my autograph book asking if he would kindly get Elvis' autograph for me. I got the autograph book back with Elvis' autograph as well as the Colonels'.He just signed "The Colonel".I've treasured these ever since.Since reading about how anyone in the Elvis camp would sign his name I sometimes wonder if they're genuine.Steve Sholes looked a pretty trustworthy kind of guy so they may well be.Either way I still treasure them.

Cliff, just the fact that someone in that camp took time out to sign & return to you, meant that Elvis really had his people Taking Care of Business. And, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was Elvis' real signature! How lucky you are!

I'll tell my story once more - I take my boys to baseball games, one time the youngest wanted to get autographs, so he and a bunch of other young fans waited at the back exit after the game hoping for any of the ballplayers that drove past to stop & sign autographs, NO ONE even waved as they drove past all these little boys with their cards in their hands. I love baseball, I don't think much of the players these days. I was sadly disappointed that day.

Thanx for those nice words Lisarose, you're a doll.It must have broken your boys hearts when that happened. It just shows you how genuine and down to earth Elvis was.
