    Bubba Ho-tep

"Based on the Bram Stoker Award nominee short story by cult author Joe R. Lansdale, Bubba Ho-tep tells the "true" story of what really did become of Elvis Presley.

We find Elvis (Bruce Campbell) as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his "death", then missed his chance to switch back.

Elvis teams up with Jack (Ossie Davis), a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy, and the two valiant old codgers sally forth to battle an evil Egyptian entity who has chosen their long-term care facility as his happy hunting grounds."

If you see the trailer, read the review and see the score after more than 1400 votes (a 8.0), this must be one great movie. Has anyone seen this one? I normally don't like movies with people playing Elvis, but it seems that this guy (Campbell) does a fantastic job of portraying Elvis.

Haven't seen it, but I for one am really looking forward to the DVD release next month. I think it's looks very entertaining and as you said, Albert, it looks like Campbell did a great job portraying Elvis.
...you won't forget me when I go.

Saw the trailer and I think this is one fun movie!

There's no need for people to get offended or anything by the way Elvis is protrayed here....

Though it's a crazy story, Campbell does a great (funny) job on playing our man here. Bruce Campbell is a fine actor, who unfortunately for him maybe, always will be remembered for his role in the Evil Dead series.

    It's just big fun!

I have seen Bruce Campbell on Xena tv series, and to he did look
like the guy could play Elvis, and it would be funny if he played
Elvis in Xena, but i don't think it wouldnt work out.

Have you any idea when the movie will be released in the UK? I've not heard much about it here. Seems like us in Britain are always the last to see a movie.

You wouldn't believe it was a computer age! You can exchange emails in the blink of an eye, but movies take weeks to get here!

I think they are putting them in bottles and throwing them out to sea, then praying they reach us!

Ok, you'll have to use your imagination a little... it would have to be a big bottles... but you see what I mean.

They could just squeeze them into big jars, you know...

Then again, you'd have to be very lucky to have it drift up on your beach...

Knowing my luck the jar I opened would contain the latest 'Disney' film... now did I mean to say 'Disney' or have I just been censored!

For anyone not understanding the joke, have a look on the other thread about the other board, you'll see what i mean.

I managed to catch Bubba Ho Tep when it played here in Toronto and I got a chuckle out of it. Now keep in mind this is from the director of Phantasm and the Star of the Evil Dead films. (Love the Evil Dead films and love Bruce Campbell) It's super low budget and silly. "Elvis" is in an old age home, has "cancer on his pecker", and befriends a black guy who thinks he's JFK to fight a soul sucking mummy. If you can get by this you should have no problem enjoying the film. I also felt it wasn't disrespectful of Elvis but I'm sure there will be some interesting opinions when it hits DVD and fans have a chance to see it.
    Cheers

I recently saw Bubba Ho Tep and loved it. You have to adjust to the very offbeat subject and characters but the pure audaciousness (is that a word) of the idea won me.
Bruce Campbell, a horror and cult favourite from Evil Dead, Spiderman etc, makes a very compelling elderly Elvis, even if they did a bit too much work on his chin.
It's also relatively kind to Elvis, all things considered.
Not for all tastes, but I'd agree with the IMDB rating of 8/10

I've seen this movie a week ago and I loved it. I've watched it with my family and everyone found it a really nice movie. Besides all the jokes, they never tried to make fun of Elvis.

Here are two alternate covers I found on the net:

I bought this movie when it first came out in video. My family and I all enjoyed it. It was silly but done in good taste. We didn't find anything offensive to Elvis in it.

I didn't really like it myself but I don't care for Bruce Campbell anyway so that may have affected my opinion. I'd suggest renting it if you want to see it, and see if you dig it, before you pay for it. I'd never have watched that one again even if I had liked it.
