Welcome fandom; in what field are you getting your university degree? You must have compiled a whole lot of questions to ask us; so I would advise to start a thread with all the questions you want and send a message to a administrator to make it sticky.
And there are a whole lot of books about Elvis' fans - even a quick search on Amazon US gave me a whole lotta books
