Thanks for posting this TCBnAFlash. I knew that saying came from somewhere but not where is originated.

I knew Elvis as stated somewhere, I think on the outtakes of, Elvis on Tour, that he got part of the speech from a song.
Here it it, it's a Frank Sinatra song.
Sinatra
Writer(s): Youmans/Rose/dEliscu
Without a song, the day would never end
Without a song, the road would never have been
When things go wrong, a man ain't got a friend
Without a song
That field of corn, would never see a plow
That field of corn, would be deserted now
A man is born, but he's no good no how
Without a song
I've got my trouble and woe, but sure as I know
The Jordan will roll
I'll get along, as long as a song
Is strung in my soul
I'll never know, what makes the rain to fall
I'll never know, what makes the grass so tall
I only know, there ain't no love at all
Without a song

yep it would have been good to hear elvis sing this song i think he would have done it better than frank
Sorry, but Without A Song was only covered by Frank Sinatra; it wasn't one of his songs.
It was first published in 1929.
Dozens of artists have recorded it over the years. The original lyrics actually had a racist term for black people (not the N-word, but a similar epithet): "A (Getlo's edit)'s born, but he's no good no how, without a song." Even Sinatra's original version has it. It was later changed to "A man is born".
The version that Elvis would have known best was possibly Perry Como's from 1951, or Billy Eckstine's from the late 40s.
By the way, Elvis impersonates Billy during You Don't Have To Say You Love Me during TTWII.
That's why Elvis sings the line "and now you've gooowwwwnee away" strangely ... he is doing Billy.
Getlo - cute'n'cuddly
No one said Elvis sang this song. He just used it in his speech.
i'm gnna try and find perry como and billy eckstine singing it just to see how good or bad they are at singing it see the different styles
