Thread: Shake rattle and roll with piano solo?

Question Shake rattle and roll with piano solo?

Hello, a newbie here asking a question!

I just bought Elvis Presley album (the first one 1956) and just paid attention to bonus track "Shake rattle and roll". This version has two guitar solos and no piano solo (however there is an accompaning piano).

I have also heard a otherwise similiar (apparently a) studio version of the song that has a piano solo in it, the latter one of the solos. The solo starts a bit like Woody Woodpecker theme . I have this version in my computer but I don't have a slightest idea where it's from.

    Do you happen to know?

Thanks, that was a rapid answer indeed. But to be more precise, where does that version originate from, was it just earlier unreleased version from the same sessions as the single/ep version?

    Hi there and welcome!

Yes it was an unreleased version from the same session, February 3rd 1956. Shake, Rattle and Roll appears three times on the 50's box set:

    CD2 Track 2 = RCA Studio 1, New York, February 3, 1956, master take 12
CD5 Track 5 = Lubbock, Texas, January 1955, master take
CD5 Track 11 = RCA Studio 1, New York, February 3, 1956, alternate take 8 ~ It's this one which has the piano solo on it.

A great source for sessions info is Keith Flynn's site (http://www.keithflynn.com/recording-sessions/index.html)

Thank you, great source indeed. Actually I've seen a one like that but it hasn't been updated since 2004. This one http://www.elvisrecordings.com/. The link you gave seems to be a real deal.
