[Royalties come and go....... But there is only one man we always call THE KING
No connection whatsoever; they never met.
The funeral story was just a rumour at the time. Same with Burt Reynolds, who was also supposed to show up.
I'm sure Elvis liked John Wayne as an actor. I seriously doubt if the Duke would have liked Elvis though!

I dont believe these two ever met.Edward Faulkner who co starred with Elvis in Tickle Me was a friend of Wayne's.He mentioned him in an interview in the last Man and the Music. He believed Elvis and Wayne would have gotten along well together.
Thank you for the information, didn't think they knew eachtogther.
I think John Wayne was too hardcore for Elvis. What i mean is Wayne was too serious all the time. I wonder what he thought of the movie Charro or Stay away Joe?
John Wayne hosted "General Electric AllStar Anniversary" special on TV in 1978. In one section he saluted entertainers who had recently died-and he had very nice words to say about Elvis.
I think Waynes youngest daughter Marisa has claimed her father took her to see Elvis in concert in Anaheim California 1976-I read a book about her life with her father and I think thats where I read it.

John Wayne was a nice man, who appeared to me, to have a lot of class. Personally, he is one of my favourite actors as a person, from my observations. In my opinion, of course he would have liked Elvis, there isn't anything to not like, and from the reports I've read, everyone liked Elvis because of his manners, thoughtfulness and down to earth manner.![]()
well..I was there on August17-18 and 19, 1977 (including the Forest Hill Cemetery) and John Wayne was not there. There was some actors and actress but Wayne was not there. Sorry..
Have a nice day, Bogarcon
The tribute that John Wayne did for Elvis on that special in 1978 really was special!!! He truly admired Elvis, as having seen it live, it truly was touching seeing as great a hero as John Wayne talk so highly and warmly of Elvis!!!!! 2 giants in the entertainment industry and great human being's.During the Memphis concert in '74, Elvis does a bit of an John Wayne "impersonation"!

Unless he is specifically including Elvis in the "we" part of the comment, as opposed to just the guys, then I have doubts about the meeting.
And if John Wayne was in the audience at one of the shows, I think Elvis would have mentioned it ... and yes, someone would have told him.

>Elvis was Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys,is that true?
>Also,do you recall a meeting with Elvis and John Wayne?

I have no idea whether Wilson was allowed to go upstairs. or whether other
celebrities were allowed also.
the way I feel about it, they shouldn't have been given special privileges. If
it is not proper for fans or anyone else to gawk at the place Elvis died, then
the same should go celebrities or anyon else.

The entire answer, is above, in the context of speaking of Elvis, that is the best I can do.
Well Getlo I will try to get the bio of Waynes daughter from the library and see if thats where I read it. If it is in there- I don't know why she would make it up, but I guess she could have-just as I think it might be possible that a well known celebrity could be at one of Elvis's concerts on the road and the info might not get back to him.
I also may have read it in a bio by last wife Pilar, or in the book by Pat Stacy who was his secretary-and had an affair with him in the 70s.

When that was aired in 78 I had not yet bought a VHS video recorder because they were so expensive. I finally got one in 1980- it was an RCA it weighed about 65 pounds was 4 times the size of todays and it cost $700 dollars. I got my last recorder for about $40. My how things change.![]()
