All the videos that I come across on YouTube and elsewhere, that I want to own, I download them using the site Keepvid.com, the process is really simple; one just copies the url from the video you are watching and copies it into the url-bar on the site and click download.
However, all of the videos that I've downloaded, have had the .flv ending, which means that it requires you to have a software called "FLV Player", which is free - on the Keepvid.com site there is a link to it (in the "How to use" section); don't know if it is the version that I have, but I downloaded mine version off Download.com.
Hopefully someone here has a more knowledge of how to convert these files to WMV format; but if you would like to burn the file onto DVD the best program to use is the program ConvertXtoDVD (even allows you to make your own menu, albeit a simple one); I'm currently using it to burn the fantastic series Father Ted, that I downloaded, and it works like a charm in my dvd player
