What was Elvis' weight here? The pic was taken in April 1972 in Jax, Florida. Also when did Elvis start getting in shape for Aloha? How long did it take him to get in shape? He must have lost the weight rather quickly.
"When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was a hero in the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times. I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song." - Elvis Presley
I think that when crouched down and leaning forward like that, regardless of at what point in his career, you are going to see some belly. If he was standing up straight I wonder if the same question would be asked.
He doesn't appear bloated in the face, for whatever that's worth..
But regardless, by November '72 he definitely did have some weight to lose for Aloha. I would be interested to know exactly how much that was.
...you won't forget me when I go.
I would say in November of 72, he most likely weighed between 185-190, because he lost 25 lbs. for the Aloha and weighed 165 lbs! Just to add to this, in the above photo, he had his gold attendance belt on that he received from the International in 1969, and we all know how rake thin he was during this time.
I know he lost weight for Aloha, but he still looks pretty darn fine to me in this pic!
As with the comments that Bobby made earlier in the thread, the position Elvis is in with that photo makes Elvis look overweight!
Other pictures from the same show (16th April) give a more realistic view.
I would also like to point out that Elvis wore the Pyramid Jumpsuit in Vegas in Possibly July/Aug as the picture below shows with the curtain; so his weight for the most part had to be reasonably stable throughout 1972
what about msg! think about the press conference in june 72 looked preety good to me!
1969 july 31st, will we ever see anything?? sob sob!
this is no joke: one time I was watching TTWII and a buddy of mine entered the room. He saw Elvis and said "Ain't this from his later years? He's already fat here"..
Elvis (like Vernon) always had a bit of a puffy face (no hard lines for the cheekbones). But it's stunning that people consider Elvis heavy/overweight on TTWII, On Tour or The Aloha. His weight was fantastic for his height, and very few people from his age might have managed to get/stay in that shape.
Even in 1974 Elvis was able to loose weight before a tour. You can see that from 1975 on he didn't manage to loose the extra weight that he gained when he was off from touring.
Elvis had a extremely bad way of dieting: consuming very little water and food over a period of time, exhausting his body.

I have to say -- I don't know how anyone can look at Elvis in TTWII, and think he's at all overweight. That's just bizarre. On Tour, okay. But not TTWII. But then I've seen a comment on another message board that Elvis was fat in Loving You, so I guess it's not the strangest thing I've ever heard.this is no joke: one time I was watching TTWII and a buddy of mine entered the room. He saw Elvis and said "Ain't this from his later years? He's already fat here"..
Elvis had kind of a baby face with full cheeks when he was young, but I thought he'd lost it by 68. It's why I think he looked the best from 68 to 72.
Elvis looked great in 68,(hey that rymes) he was thin for TTWII, heavier in Elvis on tour, skinny again for Aloha, gained wieght after that and never got down to Aloha size again.
I have a couple of questions if somebody does not mind answering for me, first is how much did Elvis' jumpsuits with capes weigh on average and if they were heavy he must have lost a lot of weight during the show. How much did he lose after every show?

And you call this guy a "buddy" ??? LOL
You should make him get down and give you 50 on his knuckles
Seriously, how anyone can look at Elvis in '70 and say he's "Fat" is just plain ignorant.
In the pic from up above in Jacksonville, Florida, Elvis weighed no more than what he did, in say, "Clambake", in 1967. He actually looks pretty great, considering that unorthodox movement and positioning he is doing.
As far as I know, Elvis dieted close to 2 months before "Aloha".
He did some excercise, took diet pills, tanned and watched what he ate.
Too bad he strayed from that path the evening after ALOHA ...![]()
Unfortunately, people starved themselves when dieting back then Albert. This was before low-fat this, low-fat that, and before we became so educated on what we can and cannot eat. It was like have a salad, drink tab pop, ( yuk! ) and water. Problem was, energy wise it was a real struggle because of the lack of food, thus doctors were giving patients speed, ( dexedrine to be exact ) to give people that boost. It's tough enough now to diet properly, years ago it was brutal! Elvis, like most of us, battled his weight for most of his adult life.
Yes, I know, it's insane.... but hey, how can you call a non-Elvis fan sane anyway
If oy look at pics from 1974, he looked extremely healthy (weight-wise) during a long period of that year. Many times just plain slim, sometimes just a (normal) belly. But that of course, was also the year that he did a lot of karate. Even during the bad period (september/oktober 1974) he still didn't gained a lot of weight.

It was bad wasn't it! I remember being in school in the seventies, and this girl I had a crush on, said that if I lost weight, she would go out with me. There I was, in the school gym every night, running, with a garbage bag covering my chest and stomach, which was supposedly a good way to lose weight because of the sweat factor. Needless to say, I never ended up going out with her!![]()
