    Advise on Memory label

Guys and girls, I see that the Czech Memory label has released quite a few CD's so far. I myself only have the 2CD Anything that's part of you. I am planning to also get A Dinner Bell in Vegas and A bright midnight with Elvis for the obvious reason that it's 1970 material

My question is: what other CD's of this label are worthing checking out (as far as both content and sound quality goes). Any help is very much appreciated! :worthy:

hi paulie, with the exception of the long lost home recordings which is a fake. the rest of them are excellent, great packaging, liner notes and photos. they really don't offer us anything new on the outtakes , but they clean them up and they sound quite good. among the best ones are the echoes of love sessions 2 cd set, the blue hawaii, and g i blues sets. and the for movie fans only 3 vol set. the sound on the latter sets is amazing for original soundtrack songs. i think they are still avalible through the czech website. i don't remember it off hand. hope this helps out have a great week, simmerrocks

I just love the way Memory packs their releases: the layout is excellent, just as the adition of great linernotes. This is the way an import cd should be released.

Unfortunately the studio outtakes CD's seldom offer anything new, and the soundquality is a bit flat. The idea and compilation is mostly very nice.

The live CD's are 9 out of 10 audience recordings. Although they might have been improved over the source, the result still is a flat-sounding audience recording. The advantage of a good audience recording over a soundboard, is that they can have a boosted sound (a real live, 'being there' feeling). Audience recordings like 'Adios The Final Performance' are cd's like that. But almost every of the Memory releases are missing this advantage. So what you get is a flat sounding audience recording without hearing much audience, without a full sound and without having the feeling of 'being there'.

Fortunately the shows are good picks.....

Good live CD's (sounquality wise) are: "Charleston Rocks" (Charleston, July 24 1976) and "In Dreams Of Yesterday" (Milwaukee, June 28 1974).

In Dreams Of Yesterday...refresh me--was that one a really good audience recording or a bad soundboard? I am thinking it was the latter.

Thanks Lonnie, I've heard about that one. I think it is a soundboard. I read about it somewhere, and I quote: 'It sounds like some-one put a towell over the speakers'.

Thanks for refreshing me on that. Yes, that is a pretty apt description! And as I now recall, the label boasted about the sound on that one!

Yes I understood that too. Ah well, it is still in better quality then most of the audience recordings. Maybe they should've called it a very good audience recording .... when you say 'soundboard' the expectations do tend to rise!
