I thought that an "instrumental-only" track was recorded for use in the '68 Special?

No a vocal was recorded and its the version used on the remix and in "Oceans 11"
I have read that at one time "ALLC" was going to be a focal point of the 68 Special but the idea was dropped.

Yes, it was recorded twice. If you listen to all the outtakes to that song from Live A Little, Love A Little that appears on Celluloid Rock Volume 2 then compare it to the 68 Comeback Special you will note that his voice sounds different even though they are from the same time period. The instrumental track that you are referring to is "Let Yourself Go". That was the track that you heard during the ending credits. It's Hurts Me was also done during this time and a version appeared in the special as well but I don't believe it was recorded. Elvis sung it to Colonel Parker I believe for his birthday or some type of special day for the Colonel.

Their was a few other songs that Elvis was to sing for the special and most was movie songs that he liked but they wasn't recorded.

The version they used on the remix was recorded for the 68 Special but never used in the tapping. I believe it's sung at a lower key than on, Live Little, Love a Little. He also sipped that high shout he does at the end of the breakdown part.
The original version of the 68 special is in that 2 disc CD set. I believe they also play it during one of the menu section of the 3 DVD box set of the 68 Special.

Here is the original version for the 68 Special used on the Remixed.

I think maybe some have missed the point of this post: maybe this is what TT was referring to?

Remember, there were two versions of ALLC released in 1968 (neither of which had anything to do with the TV special), because of an error at RCA.

Both were recorded on March 7, 1968 at Western Recorders in Hollywood.

The version as featured on the single was Take 16 (2m28s).

The version on the Almost In Love album was Take 10, and is two seconds longer at 2m30s.

    As for the TV special:

The instrumental track was recorded on June 23, 1968 and Elvis dubbed his vocal on June 24. The TV special version is in a slightly lower key than the original single/album versions. The acetate version of this appears on the Memories CD.

This version was used for the Oceans 11 remix, and the same version was later used for the Elvis vs JXL single.

I think thats what I said earlier. I was assuming he was asking about the tv special version.

A Little Less Conversation was recorded more than once as getlo said. It was originally done for the movie Live A Little love A Little and then recorded again for a single release. then it was done again for the 68 Comeback Special but was dropped at the last minute. the version used for the worldwide #1 hit remix was from the June 1968 comeback tapes. they were lost for over 30 years then discovered in Vernon's office cabinet in 1998 that had been locked up for decades. It was a very underrated discovery at the time and just an additional track on the 2-CD set Memories of 68 Comeback. Not even Nostradamus could have predicted it would be EP's biggest hit since the 50's, 25 years after his death.

I've heard two different versions. One version is very distinct.

Also, to get a little off-topic, what was the deciding factor to remixing & re-releasing ALLC. Was it just for the commercial?

Just pretend, I'm holding you, and whispering things soft and low.
And think of me, how it's gonna be and just pretend I didn't go

Remember, the remix for the soccer commercial was not the one done by JXL.

Presumably, the buzz about the commercial led EPE to seek out their own remix version for release.

If it wasn't done by him then please explain why the name JXL appears on the commerical?

Soocer commerical was used for Born To Rock DVD on Little Less Conversation is the commerical and at the beginning it says the following:

    Artist: Elvis Presley
Track: A Little Less Conversation (JXL Remix)
    RCA Records/BMG

I have that original commerical when it originally ran and that is what it also says too. There is two versions of this commerical, one black and white and one color and both says the same thing.

Also, a later commerical was done which feature the player kicking the ball and the final ball sunked the ship. That too was done by JXL. That track is also credit to him becuase it was on his website at one time.

The soccer commerical was used for as an early release of a music video shown on MYV, Vh1, and other places.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to that commercial. My bad.

The Australian soccer team used the original remixed version for its 2006 (?) World Cup TV campaign. I'd forgotten about the 2002 worldwide version, which indeed was JXL.

(I say 2006, though the year may be wrong: I hate soccer, so I assume the Cup is held every four years?)
