    Singing in tongues!

I was listening to the "G.I. Blues" soundtrack yesterday morning and when it got to "Wooden Heart" I got to wondering about how well Elvis handled the German language in it.As there are so many different people from different countries that visit this site I thought that maybe some of you could give us your thoughts on how well Elvis actually did on the "foreign" songs...be they German,Italian,Spanish....Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Great thread Sleepy Jack. I've often wondered how good Elvis' German was in Wooden Heart too.

His German isn't that well I'm afraid.

His Spanish was far from even OK, LOL. But it is still cool that he bothered.

I just had a vision of us getting rounded up and forced to apologise to all the nations that we`ve unknowingly insulted!.......I will remain silent from now on...and your honour I didn`t know that "Alla hen-ricco-bandande" meant "Your president looks like a drunk glove-puppet"!!!

I think it might be a good idea to by-pass the foreign parts of the songs from now on...just in case.

The only french words that I heard Elvis singing are "solitaire", "chauffeur" (in Long Black Limousine), "souvenir".

It's not too much and I'm sorry of that but he pronounced them quite well. It's a pity because he sang "What now my love", "My way" which were written originally by french singers !

I have to say, I think he did pretty well singing Wooden Heart in German The german phrases that are in that song are even in a special german dialect, which is mainly spoken in southern Germany. I think Elvis did his best and it sounds good

Here are Elvis' words of the song, someone wrote on it how to pronounce the german words for him

If Elvis had travelled all over the world, I'm sure he would have say some words in the language of each country during his shows.

Why never someone did that for Elvis when he recorded "Guadalajara", still canīt tell what heīs talking about and Im suposedly a spanish native speaker! haha...

"Itīs Imposible" was first writen and recorded in Spanish by Armando Manzanero, it was quite a popular song here in Mexico durining the mid 60's.

Anybody know who was the first one to record that song in English? love Elvis version the most.

I have alway wondered how did Elvis got to know "Solamente una vez" (Million Dollar Quartet) and "Allá en el Rancho Grande" (Walk A Mile in My Shows Cd5) both popular folk songs here in Mexico, but I donīt think they were popular at all in the States. Anyone has a clue? Anyway the fact that Elvis knew this music let you know that he was serious all the way when he said he liked ALL KINDS OF MUSIC.

I never was sure if he was singing foreign languages correctly, but I sang along anyway. Sometimes I'm not sure what he is singing in English!
