Thread: Essential Element?

    Essential Element?

What Essential Element do you consider important regarding Elvis?

    Personality?

    Looks?

    Clothing?

    Voice?

    lifestyle?

    All the above?

What element is the least important?

This is very hard to answer Matt as Elvis was the total package in personality, looks, voice, clothing style etc. so choosing what was the least important is really tough. I would have to say lifestyle because it was unhealthy and could have been different without affecting his career. I would have to say the voice was the most important.

Think I would go with "all of the above".......probably with the addition of luck, charisma and management.
As for a least important element, I think each of these elements was a critical piece of the Presley phenomenon, though if I had to single one out.....management.....particularly post 1960.

With Elvis it's the total package.Everything you mentioned was as element in his stardom.Everything just seemed to fit and was meant to be.Right down to living in a house called Graceland. We musnt forget originality either.

For me it started with the :Voice .
Then the personality and then his looks.

Don't forget his "rags to riches" life story. I'd say the voice is the most important. It's what made Elvis stand out before anyone even knew who he was or what he looked like. I wouldn't like to single out a "least important" aspect, however. Ultimately, everything is interconnected. For instance, it might be easy to place his looks last, based on rhetoric like, "Looks are superficial," or whatever, but that would be shortchanging the tremendous affirmative quality his looks brought to his uniqueness and otherworldiness, as well as the gravitic pull they have always exerted on everyone who has ever caught a glimpse of them. Apply the same to personality, clothing etc. Yet it is truly the voice of Elvis -- his most artistically profound quality (IMO) -- that has rendered him immortal.

It`s probably a combination of all of the things mentioned but for me it has always been about the voice......to this day it can make the hair stand on my head,it can make me happy or sad and it can be the greatest comfort when life isn`t going too well...so...ahm....yeah...the voice!

All the above. He was a total of all those things and thats what made him unique. Some depend on looks, others talent, others personalilty- Elvis had all the above.

Not after looking at your avatar.

I would say his name. It includes all.

To me a combination of all those elements

It's hard nowadays to find someone in music who is like him.Sometimes they have look and style but not voice and talent.....or they have voice but not so much personality.

Elvis was absolutely perfect: talent, charisma, energy, sense of communication, style, original look....he will be always the NUMBER 1!!!

I would say all of the above. What I find interesting about your question, is that you've listed what most people know about Elvis, whether they are EP fans or not. If I had to choose one however, it would be that magnificent voice! As far as least important goes, there is none, everything on the list made up of who he was, that's why his fame is still unparallelled.

I´m sure without his looks more than half of his feminine fans wouldn´t have taken a second look at him wether they aknowledge it or not. Look at all the threads started on that, they have all the right to do so and this is not meant to offend anybody but I think I´m not far from the truth.
To me one of the reasons is he had the ability to turn simple and tacky things into something cool (dunno if it makes much sense) but all mentioned was important in my opinion, he had something for everybody.

His looks and his voice might be the first things to suck you in, but you begin to see something special about him. There was just something about him that just his smile made you happy. Add his kindness and generosity and you have something made in heaven.

For me the most important element is his voice, his singing voice and
his talking voice. If you were blind you couldn't experience the other
elements, they are a special bonus, yes he had it all .
The least important may have been his lifestyle, I'm not sure but I think
the fans didn't know much of what he was doing in his private life.

Interesting thought.....and very very true. For me, it was a combination of the looks and the voice at the same time. I would almost get "lost" in his music, if that makes any sense. If something was bothering me I would go to my room, turn on the stereo and put the headphones on and his music would "carry me away". The more that I learned about him, the more special he became to me.......
