Things you can learn from Elvis films

Remember the scene in Fun In Acapulco, where Mike's little manager Raoul kept telephoning the different nightclubs to keep getting Mike a better price for his singing?

I just applied the same lying, scheming philosophy to my career.

I recently told my boss that I believed I was being underpaid (which I was), and if the situation didn't improve, I'd walk. Another employer had made me an offer, so for the last two weeks I've been playing them off each other, upping my salary bit by bit.

Anyway, the upshot of it all is that I start a new job (better position etc) in January, and my new employer is paying me much more than he originally offered.

Just goes to show you can learn a lot from Elvis Presley's movies!

Remember kids ... one can bend the truth (ie lie outright!) to one's advantage, but always be careful not to overplay one's hand ...

Another lesson from the movies is that when you get behind the wheel of any racing car, you'll win the race ... but I've yet to put that into practice!

Congrats Getlo!!! Great strategy on your part......just have to be careful because it could have backfired - luckily for you it didn't. You must be very good at what you do..

    Congratulations!!!

I would not call it stretching the truth-"skillful negotiations" is a much better term. Its always nice to hear good news for someone.

Congragulations! You took the risk, Getlo and you made it. Have you also learned how to win every girl's heart like Elvis did in the movies?!?
Goodbye Rosanne...Your "family" in TCB will always remember you.

Congrats! I keep telling my kids, negotiation is the key in employment!

Just pretend, I'm holding you, and whispering things soft and low.
And think of me, how it's gonna be and just pretend I didn't go

Just one little caution Getlo, hope your new employer or someone very close to him is not an avid Elvis fan who surfed these sites.

Lol, maybe I should apply the: "Told him that Gregg Nolan is here with the true" (From Love a Little Love a Little) so, I could get the job that I want soon.
