Evel Knievel, the red-white-and-blue-spangled motorcycle daredevil whose jumps over crazy obstacles including Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

This was truly sad for me.

Evel was one of my heroes growing up in the 70's. I remember having all of his toy cars and stuff, and even an Evel Knievel lunch box for school!

Plus the many Saturday afternoons watching him perform various jumps with his motorcycle on ABC's Wide World Of Sports.

I loved the movie "Evel Knievel" with George Hamilton. I thought that he was so sexy in that movie in his "elvis" jumpsuits. I am so sad to hear that he has died.

Sad to hear of him passing but still glad that he died naturally...no one expected him to. He was amazing!

"I guess I thought I was Elvis Presley but I'll tell ya something. All Elvis did was stand on a stage and play a guitar. He never fell off on that pavement at no 80 mph" - Evel Knievel.

Elvis and Evel met a few times in Vegas. Elvis was due to visit Caesar's Palace in the 70s to watch Evel jump, but pulled out at the last minute.

I'm surprised Evel lasted as long as he did, considering the amount of crashes and injuries he endured.

He was one of the coolest dudes ever.

    RIP.

This saddened me so much yesterday when I heard the news...I remember seeing the documentary "the last of the gladiators" and wanting to do jumps like him...
    RIP Evel
