'Elvis In Concert' 1977 TV special; Should it be released officially? There is always a heated debate as to whether Elvis' final TV special should be released. Should we accept Elvis with the sadness & pain of his last concerts, or do we agree with EPE's policy of glorifying the god-like Elvis mega-star and deny that anything changed after 'Aloha'? Some fans scream YES for the release of 'Elvis In Concert', yet they are often labelled as *****s for wanting Elvis' good clean image once again vilified. In this stimulating article, Gary V explains why most of us are in fact deluded!

The fact that elvis went out on stage in his last concert even though he was ill took some doing in my eyes, if anyone says the col made him do it that to is rubbish, he wanted to to one last show for his fans. if the fans want to buy it for there own personal collection then let them. "deluded they are not"

"I have learned never to ridicule any man's opinion, however strange it may seem."
I hate to say it but I truly believe that Elvis purely went out on stage those two nights in June of '77 simple because the Colonel & CBS made him do it because they (CBS) waved $750.000 in front of Parker's nose and he went for it.
"Elvis In Concert" should have never happened at all, IMO.
i would buy the 'Elvis In Concert' 1977 TV special if released..my friend taped in on vhs in october when it aired on tv .later i took the tape from him and transfered it on dvd..so i dont really need it..i have my copy..but fact is it will never ever be oficially released .because epe are stupidoooooooooooooo![]()
Agreed(although I think this thread was started about Elvis' concerts in general, not the CBS special).
This was debated at some length in other threads.
To release this special as a general release would cause harm to Elvis' image. As I said elsewhere, if it is to be released officially, let it be in an FTD-type format, where fans who know of it and want it can buy it.
"The public has already seen it," says Gary V, somewhat smugly in the link above.
That's crap; the public have only seen some of the best snippets. They would crucify Elvis and us fans if they saw the whole, sordid mess.

well i diagree with you here getlo when u say To release this special as a general release would cause harm to Elvis' image..not at all its a piece of history and the concert is good.obviosly elvis was not well.still his voice was left intack strong beautiful..after all what are you so afraid of many have already seen the concert.even young fans..you make it sound like elvis was like some kind of horrific monster that we should hide this from the public he wasint and they should release it i bet you it will be abig seller..it will sell tons of copies and they can also add aphotobooklet to it etc..elvis was no monster in 77.. just very illaafter all you did say you enjoyed the indy 77 concert...so its not all bad and he looked better for that concert his last one

I agree, it should be released.
IMO, it has been the horrible books and gossip from his "fans and friends" that's hurt Elvis' name. Certainly , not anything he ever did.
What he did was tame compared to all the things he was accused of, IMO.
IF any fan is ashamed of him; I'd suggest becoming a fan of someone else .
He'd probably tell them the same.![]()
"I have learned never to ridicule any man's opinion, however strange it may seem."
We can respect Elvis and his memory by not subjecting him to the inevitable taunts and jibes which would occur if In Concert got a wide release.
It is not a matter of being ashamed of Elvis; it's a matter of being embarrassed for the poor bastard and the fact that this TV special was even made in the first place.

]It was made. It was and is Elvis. If no one can accept Elvis or anyone the way they really are plus calling them a bastard ; IMO he doesn't need them as a "fan." I have a feeling he might tell anyone the same.

That's not entirely true. The reason there is an arugement about releasing the CBS special is due to his appearance and overall poor performance.Elvis was his own worst enemy. He unintentionally gave his critics all they needed to ridicule him.The pereception that he became a parody of himself has done more to undermine his credibility as an artist more than any book. That perception whether you want to believe it or not was a result of what Elvis himself did.

Because I care about his reputation, that's why! If you - as you suggest - don't care what others think, then you have no right to object to things like What Happened or the many scurrilous rumours about him. If In Concert gets a wide release, we'll go back to the bad ol' days of the late 70s and early 80s where Elvis was basically a joke in the eyes of the general public.
I am not surprised at all that cameron completely missed the point of that comment; don't follow her down the same path, your posts indicate you're smarter than that.
"Bastard", in this sense, is a colloquialism (similar to Barbara Stanwyck's comment "I feel sorry for the poor bastard"). I'm not saying he actually was a bastard (ie someone without parents, or a rotten person).
Don't presume I was being literal here!![]()

This one never fails to raise the temperature does it??!!
I`ve never in all my years as a fan been ashamed of Elvis,or really cared too much about the general public`s opinion of him.....but,that said, I can see Getlo`s opinion of how it could be damaging to the Elvis image....the public are not as forgiving as we are....and I don`t think Elvis himself would be happy to be made a joke of.I`m not saying that we should hide it beacause we are ashamed of it.....just that maybe it`s something the general population don`t need to have.....
Elvis would have been the first one to say that he wasnt proud of that footage.
