Thanks for the story.
I never knew the reason why he shot the TV while Goulet was singing
- he had a reason though
Anyway,
I wonder why he was worried about the talking?!
He amazes me with the clever and intelligent answers he gave on the interviews![]()
I read in talkshow host Mike Douglas's bio that one time Muhammed Ali was on his show and backstage they was talking when a call came in for Ali-it ended up being Elvis. After a moment Ali said to Douglas someone wants to talk to you. Douglas took the phone and spoke with Elvis for a few minutes.
He says Elvis apologized to him because it was Douglas's show that Robert Goulet was on when Elvis shot up the TVset. Douglas says he found out that Goulet had a female backup singer that was at one time dating Elvis and Goulet told someone to tell Elvis he was "taking care of her" for Elvis. Elvis did not take to kindly to the comment (according to Douglas)
He also asked Elvis to come on his show, even told him he did not have to sing if he did not want to. Elvis told him he could not do it. He told Douglas he did not mind the singing it was the talking he worried about.
Thanks for the story.

I never knew the whole story, either! Thanks, KPM!
Which female back-up singer are they referring to?
It's too bad that Elvis didn't do an interview on the Michael Douglas show, it would have been cool!

Thanks, KPM!
This was on EIN (2004)...this part of the interview talks about Elvis...

CA: So tell me a little more about the Elvis connection. We write so much about Elvis here. What was your reaction when you heard he'd shot the TV?
GOULET: The point is I knew he was not himself so therefore it wasn't anything to do with me. He shot out Mel Torme. He shot out Frank. But I get all the credit.
I have read he disliked Torme, but never heard he shot out Frank Sinatra on the TV. I think Mr. Goulet was maybe trying to cover his "assets" by including Frank in on this.![]()
I didn't know about the Frank Sinatra one, either...
I agree, KPM! I think Mr. Goulet (may he RIP), was trying to cover something!
franny
I thought I read somewhere that it was Anita Wood that Goulet said he was taking good care of??

Elvis liked and grew to love Frank.
The story above from Mike Douglas has either been copied incorrectly or misunderstood by Douglas.
Frank didn't like Elvis at first in the fifties. And he hated rock'n'roll. But after meeting Elvis in 1960, he changed his mind.
There was some angst while Elvis was boffing Juliet Prowse during G.I.Blues, as she was (one of) Frank's girls at the time. But it came to nothing, as Juliet and Frank eventually went their separate ways.
Frank and Elvis stayed friends for the rest of Elvis' life. Frank even called Elvis when he was in the hospital in 1975. Sent flowers to Elvis' funeral. Recorded Love Me Tender in the 70s.
Frank always spoke highly of Elvis in interviews; and he was no hypocrite. His respect for Elvis was genuine.
Make no mistake, Elvis and Frank were indeed friends.

Thanks KPM.
According to some around Elvis, including Sonny, I think, Elvis and Juliet never were intimate, he asked that she be kept away from him BECAUSE she was Frank's girl and he didn't cheat w/"taken" women.
Yes they were.
Matter of fact, Frank loaned Elvis his private jet named the "Christina" (after one of his daughter's) for Elvis and Pris to fly out of Las Vegas on it after their wedding.
Also read in one of the books that Frank called Elvis up and offered his help in stopping the publishing of "Elvis What Happened" and Elvis didn't (obviously) accept his offer.![]()
The only stories I've heard from the MM concerning this all say they did have an affair. They tell of Elvis hiding in a trailer on the set because somebody yelled Frank was coming as a joke because they knew Elvis would freak. They also say Elvis bragged that out of all his costars he slept with he placed her at the top of his list as the best.I believe his affair with her is well known.

Believe me.
The stories of them not getting on are wrong.
Frank and Elvis met and spoke several times throughout the sixties and seventies.
The night after Elvis died, Frank said from the concert stage "We've lost a good friend" and sang Love Me Tender as a tribute.
Frank always called a spade a spade, so he would not b.s. about something like this.

Nor would he have sent his private plane for Elvis and Pris use for their wedding.![]()
If Elvis had been able to stay away from Juliet he was a rare one as she had quite a reputation for bedding every guy she came in contact with.
