Here is alittle part of Ann Margerts book about why she and elvis didn't marry and why he choose priscilla.
His wish was that we could stay together. But of course we both knew that was impossible, and that's what was so very difficult about our relationship. Elvis and I knew he had commitments, promises to keep, and he vowed to keep his word.
Both of us knew that now matter how much we loved each other, no matter how strong our bond, we weren't going to last. We tried not to think about it.
Sometimes that was impossible. We talked about marriage. We were so alike, so compatible. Elvis didn't like strong, aggressive women and I posed no threat there. Well obviously they knew about his life. He was a busy guy in a lot of ways. Ok, 24 or so is not that old for a guy IMO. Not one who is so famous.Did they really think that he was going to date her (only) and then settle down??? Yeh right and I have some ocean front property in Arizona I've been trying to get rid of for years if anyone is buying.
Why would he go though all the trouble to bring her to the states if he wasn't going to marry her?? I think like ann said he mades promises and the col told him either marry her and kick her out.
She Married Elvis for his money and that's it. Her parents forced Elvis to marry her, even though Elvis was upset over the divorce, he in no way wanted to marry her or any woman. He was the romantic type that would get caught up in the moment.

According to Joe E. priscilla and elvis had a special bond like he had with his mother, but the only problem was elvis couldn't be faithful to one woman, but coming from Joe l don't tend to believe everything he says.
When did he say that??? Now or before he got on Cilla's payroll???

Well, I don't buy that Cilla married him for anything other than love, from what all I've read and heard her say about him.
She seems loyal and still loves him as she did back then.
I don;t think Elvis was forced into marryin her either.
Why would he be forced when he was the sexiest bachelor around?
Anyways, I think what happened was that Cilla was in love with him and had been around him for too long to just be a "girlfriend" and she wnated more.
I know for me, I love the life I have with my man, and we aint married, but we got a 4 year old son together. Different strokes for different folks.
For Cilla, I think she wanted that husband/family thing that soo many young naive girls want. But then once they get in.....they want out because it aint what they thought it was.
Cilla wanted Elvis for herself. But he was too big a star and sex symbol for her to have that. That's why it ended.
As a fan, I wished they woulda stayed together, at least for their child's sake. Then Elvis wouldn't have self destructed like he did and his life wouldn't have ended so horrible.

He didnīt die because Priscilla left him, what you see is a man in big trouble for his addiction. No one dies because they get a divorce. I have seen Elvis having fun and doing things after they splitted up. Elvis going downhill after it is just a myth, he was on the road to it before that.

Elvis' drug addiction wasn't near as bad or noticable until aftrer the divorce.
He was definitely bothered by the divorce, look at the songs he recorded.....Always On My Mind, Separate Ways, For the good Times, Fol Ol time Sake, Take Good Care Of Her, Thinkin About you, It's Midnight, Hurt, I'll Never Fall In Love, and so on.
It's obvious he wanted her in his life.
That all bein said, I think Linda was the best for him, IMO.
She was willin to give her life for his.
Well Lakeisha, I don't believe a whole lot of what Pricilla says. And if they were so much in love why was everyone so shocked?? (and yes people in his imediate family)

yep l agree with you. Lots of the songs from the 70's were ballads.
I think Cilla was in love but Elvis' lifestyle pushed her away.
Lakeisha, Priscilla herself has said Elvis drug intake was bothering her after they got married (see quotes from her and the MM while owning the Circle G ranch) and he recorded sad songs in the the 50īs and 60īs, Heartbreak hotel, Green green grass of home, Iīll remember you... that doesnīt mean a thing. His state of mind in the 70īs was altered by his physical problems and the loss of his daughter IMO. Elvis knew Priscilla was having an affair before she told him and that didnīt seem to lead him to a depression then...

Sometimes l wonder if it was Ann pushing priscilla to get hooked up with elvis in the first place, Childbride makes it seem that it was all ann's doing in the early days with priscilla and elvis???
