Television producer, ex Mr Minnelli and star of the jungle David Gest, is selling a huge collection of entertainment memorabilia in auction on December 5th in London.
The auction of over 600 lots will be held at Bonhams Knightsbridge saleroom and includes the largest collection of Gold Presentation Discs ever to appear at auction as well as an array of important items relating to Film, Television and Popular Music.

In a press release David Gest stated, “Since my appearance on ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ and move to permanently live in the UK, my life has dramatically changed. I no longer need a lot of the materialistic things I once felt so passionate about. In fact, when I came out of the jungle, I was giving away so many rare items to my friends, that they advised me to put them on auction so that others could at last get enjoyment from them."

The David Gest Collection includes more than 120 presentation Gold singles and albums in recognition of sales over 1,000,000 records, from artists including:
The Beatles: Yellow Submarine (£3000-5000), Help! (£4000-6000), Lady Madonna (£3000-5000) and Penny Lane (£3000-5000).
The Rolling Stones: (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction presented to the late Brian Jones (£10000-15000).
The Doors: Light My Fire (£8000-10000) and Hello, I Love You (£6,000-8,000) both Jim Morrison’s personal copies.
The Monkees: I’m A Believer (£4,000-6,000) and Daydream Believer (£3000-5000) presented to The Monkees.

Signed Contracts and Autographed Memorabilia:
One of the most significant pieces in the sale is The Supremes original Motown recording contract (£5000-6000) signed by all three original members. There is an entire collection of the original ‘Shindig’ scripts and original photos of all the legendary artists who performed on the show from the classic 60’s US television series produced by Jack Good.
A further important archive of contracts and signed original sheet music relating to Motown artists, includes The Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, The Jackson Five (the sheet music of every one of their hits signed by all five) Edwin Starr, The Supremes with Florence Ballard, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, R Dean Taylor, Kim Weston, Rare Earth, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles (post Smokey Robinson (£6,000-8,000) entire collection.
Fans will be able to purchase autographed sheet music from major recording artists such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston (signed in her full name), Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark and Nancy Sinatra and autographed programmes including the 1950’s and 1960’s artists such as The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Hollies and Tom Jones. Letters and signed correspondence are available from celebrities such as Paul McCartney, Bill Clinton, James Stewart, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston.
Music Merchandise and Concert Posters:
The collection includes an enormous array of fan based merchandising from the 1960’s and 1970’s, with jewellery, toys, games and fashion items all present from the major pop music performers of the day. Many of the items are in rarely seen original packaging and original shop displays and give an insight into the importance of collecting in the marketing of these bands. The sale will include memorabilia from artists such as The Beatles, including a complete original shop display stand of Beatles purses (£1,000-1500), Beatles flicker flip-button badges (£1000-1500) and a rare pair of unused Beatles sneakers in original box and tissue paper (£800-1200), The Monkees including games, toys and jewellery, Curtis Mayfield’s extremely rare ‘Superfly’ Sunglasses Display with all the sunglasses (£2500-3500), The Osmonds including jewellery and toys, Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones, including a shop display of flicker badges and The Jackson 5.
A large collection of concert posters from Jazz, Soul and R&B artists, The Grand Ole Opry as well as 1950’s Rock & Roll to 1960’s bands such as the Grateful Dead will be included.
Film Posters and Film Memorabilia:
One of the most significant items of film memorabilia in the sale is a pair of boots worn by the acclaimed actor Joseph Cotten in the film Duel In The Sun (£2000-3000) with an original signed lobby card.
A collection of over 50 film posters and lobby cards will also be offered including an original Sullivan’s Travels Three Sheet Poster on linen from the Preston Sturgers classic starring Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake (£5000-7000). There is also the two original One Sheet Posters from Sullivan’s Travels on linen including Style A (£3,000-5,000) and Style B (£2,000-3,000). Also promotional material for actors and actresses such as John Wayne, Audrey Hepburn, Frank Sinatra and Bette Davis are included. An interesting lot in the sale is a “Film Weekly Magazine Award” which is a beautiful bronze plaque for the Alfred Hitchcock 1930’s film, The 39 Steps (£800-1200) in its original velvet lined case.
There are several important books relating to Walt Disney included within the collection, a rare Walt Disney autographed and inscribed first edition copy of the book “Fantasia” (£1500-2500) and an additional book from the film entitled “ The Nutcracker Suite “ (£3000-4000) signed by Walt Disney and 12 of the team who worked on the film production. The team have signed on the title page as well as many of their illustrations.

Hmmmm!......I`ve always liked the French poster for "Jailhouse Rock"!....and I`m a bit of a squirrel when it comes to collecting rubbish!!
