I'm all for drawing young people to Elvis and his music. But I'm not sure a "Disneyland" atmosphere is what I would envision to do that.
I'm 52- my parents were Elvis's generation I was born in 1955 so I did not know who he was until 1962.
I can say if I go to Memphis-Graceland is what I want to see.
Beale Street, Sun Records, Elvis's Plane would also be things I'd probably want to visit. But Memphis and EPE have a right to do whatever they want to-lets just hope its the right thing in the long run.
I've never been to Disneyland, but from seein it on tv, it's amazing, kind of fantasy world.
As for EPE/Sillerman, they'd be commitin suicide to try and turn Graceland into an amusement park.
But they'd be buildin on the future if they expand it to be as attractable like Disney is.
The whole area would greatly benefit from the expansion and would grow.
Whitehaven had a 20% increase among new residents from 2006 to 07.
A new and better Graceland would make that area become the world class shinin star of all of Memphis!
Im talkin about the attraction area, not the house.

Oh Lord! Here comes the anti-Bob Sillerman crowd.
Here comes the older fans. That'd mean Graceland would be more younger fan oriented like me than it is now and Whitehaven and Memphis in general would see our poor economy skyrocket like never before!
If that does happen, then the media wouldn't make the fans look like freaks who think he's still alive.
That is 100% accurate there. All the media ever focuses on is the old grandmothers and their little grandchildren they make go with them.
They don't show the teenagers who go BY THEMSELVES and appreciate what he was about, as an entertainer and not a God, as some of the older fans think of him.
That seems to be Bob Sillerman's plan-is to have it on par with the Disney World Resort in Orlando. And thanls for the support. The changes will draw more kids and families than it does now and it'll be in the same breath as Disney.
Elvis may have been from a different era, but he's for much more than just his generation.
I agree with Jay as well about the decoratin at Xmas time.![]()

People not Graceland, SURROUNDING AREA, don't let the title and the context into which it's being twisted fool you.
Graceland itself, as stated by the HOME OWNER, will not change.
Everytime I see such threads I hear the twilight music start to play. LOL
Good grief.
Disney is a cliche; a money-making, plastic mirage designed only to further the corporate image and dollars of the soulless Disney Corporation. Your true colours are exposed now: there is no spirit behind these proposed changes. Just vile.
Big surprise.![]()
Getlo - cute'n'cuddly
...you're moving on the back roads, by the rivers of my memory and for hours you're just gentle on my mind.
We will see if this happens or not, but l'am all for the new changes outside of graceland.
It appears there are some that obsess about all this.
For the life of me; I don't see why.
IF changes are to come { as with everything} there will be both good and bad. No, I certainly don't think any crazy things should be done; such as an amusement park right on top of Geaceland.
IF you're from there, live there or been there : surely , you know there's much more to see and do other than Graceland.
Added to what KPM said; there's MLK Jr., Beebe King, the Peabody Hotel etc. etc.Memphis also has a zoo and other things kids would enjoy.
Beale Street is always good for a laugh, good music , fraternizing and drinking. Probaly "friendly women or men" whatever your preference .
In the long run; whatever happens, it's up to Lisa and/or Sillerman.
We need to stop worrying about this until there's something to really worry about.......:IMO hmm:

Well for one i like the furnishings now. If anyone wants Graceland to look like it did on August 16, 1977,well lets bring back the ugly red carpet on the doors, and have the cars outback under the carport to rust in the rain ok? i uderstand the nostalgia aspect of wanting it be as it was when he died, but sometime change is good. Anyone with me on this?
LOL
I was there when the car's were under the carport, though while great to see and more personal I can totally understand why they moved them to the car museum, imagine if all these years they were to have remained where they were, they would be ruined and we would not have the pleasure of viewing such a great (what is now) expensive and valuable car collection, not to mention the toys, like the Harley Davidson golf cart, or his motorcycle's. So to me that is ok.
In as much as I would have loved to seen Graceland the way he saw it b4 his passing (but I would love to have seen it that way if he would have given me the tour LOL) I can only imagine the field day SOME of the press would have with it...look at what some media and general public say now about the jungle room...even the overall decor of the public rooms...I cringe to think what would be said w/the "red" decor in place.
But all this is mute as the house will NOT be touched...if anything is to change on the premises it will be the raquetball building and maybe, a small maybe, the annex.
