    The price of fame.

Would you be willing to go through what Elvis did to pursue your passion if it meant going through what he did? Would you want to give up your privacy for fame and money? Would you risk your families privacy?

    Absolutely not .

Nope. Not me. But if he wouldn't have......well, I guess we wouldn't know any better anyway.

You couldn't pay me enough money.
I personally like the fact that nobody cares what brand of TP I use.

I would have to say no.

Elvis, imo, was a prisoner of his own fame and sucess.

...but Elvis was so young when it all began...I am sure he did not consider the cost...but the rewards for him and his mom and dad ...after years of poverty. Sometimes we take a road in life not really undertanding totally what the TOLL will be for chosing that road.

If he knew ahead of time the true toll would he have taken the road?

I will never forget you Rosanne.

I would never do that but..I don't think Elvis really choosed it. In the beginning he was young and happy to live his passion (and eventually make a lot of money), I don't think he realized what he was becoming, like everyone else, who would have thought in the 50s that Elvis would become a legend?
Then he didn't want to disappoint his fans so he had to go on..."pursue your passion" has nothing to do with becoming a superstar, when you really like singing you don't care if you do it in your hometown at the local bar,, or in front of a huge crowd...

I don't thing he knew it was all going to be so big at the time.
If he had knew everything I don't think he would have made same choices
It's hard NOT to imagine Elvis as perfect; how else could someone be THAT good looking, THAT talented, THAT generous & THAT charismatic

I agree. It doesn't appear that the fame was something he would choose.
The money was needed to help his family...and anyone he met that needed help. I don't believe he had any idea where it would all end up.

Hopefully, if he could have known where it would all lead; he would have controlled his life and career instead of letting it control him.

As for the first question (just to keep things on-topic): no I wouldn't.

However, in my opinion, Elvis knew exactly that he was going to become famous; he even stated somewhere that he knew destiny had something big for him, and he knew that was regarding music; he hung out at the Memphis Recording Studios extremely often, and him saying he recorded a record for his mother is not true. So, again, in my opinion Elvis knew that he was going to become a famous singer (and rich) - but I'm guessing that he didn't knew he was going to become a living legend and bigger than the other stars of the 50's

Absolutely, at the drop of a hat!

I'd love to do that, entertain thousands at a time, make so many people smile and have the resources to retreat behind a good set of walls in a comfortable environment with my family and friends. Have my own plane and fly where and when I wanted. Have fun. Have the annoyances of fame for sure, but every lifestyle has its annoyances.

Would I have done things differently than Elvis? Sure, but then again we all would because we are all different people.

So MissyM if this is an offer - I'm happy to be the first applicant!

    Abso-freakin'-lutely, I'd do it.

Wealth, fame, money, power and, most importantly thousands of women to know in the Biblical sense.

All excellent reasons to give up one's privacy for fame and fortune.

You can't have celebrity without the erosion of privacy.

I'd love to be able to say I would've handled it better than Elvis, but a part of me happily admits that I'd go the whole rock star route, and become debauched beyond belief.

    Mmmmmmm .. debauchery.

Getlo and Elvis Prieslty...it sounds great to be rich and have some fun
But after a little while, you will realize you can't keep nothing private, you will start to see crap written about you in tabloids, people obsessed about you, etc...That's what happened to Elvis, and when things started to get bad it was too late

And I wouldn't have cared less.

I'd have just kept sleeping with as many women as possible - and then even more! - and raking in all the cash, until finally I exploded from too much of a good thing.

Privacy is for the public only. Once you're a celebrity, that's the first thing that has to go.

And if you cannot accept that, then don't become a celebrity!

I would never do the thing Elvis did...because I am simply not that type

I think I'd do it - mainly for the $$. Only because of my situation now. And I think that we would each do things differently than Elvis anyway. For instance, had he been in public more - not kept himself closeted in his hotel or Graceland, eventually the fans would have gotten used to this - because of the fact he didn't - that is why they were stalking him all the time - trying to get a glimpse. Also - I don't do drugs, nor do I drink, so that wouldn't be a problem. And honestly, at some point, Elvis if he had played his cards right - and changed some things about the business end of it - could have retired if he chose to do so and live in Hawaii or wherever. My thoughts are - he let others run his career and ultimately "stole" millions from him. He had options, but chose not to take them.

Okay, I need to edit my post, because I WOULD NOT SLEEP WITH AS MANY WOMEN AS POSSIBLE! Men on the other hand? I don't know, because I'm married....but well......uummmmm.....never mind.
