Lisa's got her style and maybe she enjoys being unique and different.

    You know,

I like Lisa's style, it is her own.

I admire her for being herself and being true to what she likes, not commercial. Everyone has different tastes, but to me, being an individual, shows much maturity, strength, and class.

    So, a from me, lol

I do like this song. It was by far my favorite on her first CD and this line has always intrigued me:
But I wanted you to know that I heard what you said when it was rainin'

Anyway, you could see where it might be something from his final hours because why would she need to tell him now that she heard what he said? Well, if she never got the chance, that could be a reason.
i always thought she was referring to his singing "blue Eyes crying in the Rain", since this is the supposed last song he sang. i remember she said he caught her out of bed, so i figured maybe she was listening to him singing. But it is interesting that she heard what he was saying - a great piece of advice on life or love before Elvis puts her to bed? - now i'm very intrigued, thanks Lonnie, i may not get much sleep tonight!

also, I love those words 'i wanted you to know' even now, she wants him to be aware of her, that she hung on his every word! i'm thinking Elvis spent much more time talking to Lisa than people want us to believe.

Yes I think so as well, very much so. I read that after they'd been apart for a bit (btw I need to type some quotes from Pris stating how much time father and daughter spent together, not the sparse visits we're now being asked to believe), anyway, the guys said that when Lisa would arrive, Elvis would have everyone leave them alone for quite awhile and they'd just sit on the floor playing and talking, catching up.

To be honest i don`t think those lyrics are very good or her singing voice. I would be amazed if she had any kind of long term career.

Anyone know how her Lisa`s second album sold compared to her first ?

It didn't sell as well as her first, but Capitol, whom she's no longer with, did not promote it as they did the first one, matter of fact Lisa had to pay for her own tour.

I love Lisa's voice, it's deep and rich, not generic as a lot are in the pop world today, she's got uniqueness. And I love how she is able to express her emotions into her lyrics and have the listener be able to relate. IMO I love Lisa.

To be honest; I don't like her voice nor her music myself.
I do think that first album told some of her story and she needed to get it said. I hope she does get through her rebellious stage and sings different songs. I liked her voice when she sang with Elvis ;Don't Cry Daddy.
Some of her other songs; I understand why she sang them. I just don't think she had the voice to do them.

Her vocal range is mimimal, which makes it monotone. But I do think it appeals to some people. I think Willie Nelson,Joe Cocker, have unique voices but they surely do not have quality to them. I don't even like the idea of Nobody Noticed because plenty of people did. And as I said whoever is mixing her music doesn't do a very good job. (ok like I said, that is a pet peeve of mine) But I do support her on using her music as a vehicle to express herself because I feel that is what music is about. I guess what I am saying is her music has appeal but I don't think she has a lot of real talent. I have to ask, if she were not his daughter, and if she didn't write about him, would there be as much appeal? I have always thought that she would make a better actress than singer.

I like her voice, maybe doesn't have the range, but she can emote....I think she does a lot better then some pop artists today, who sound very generic, hard to tell one from the other.
I don't think she would make a good actress. I think she'd do fantastic as a songwriter or a record producer.

Well I have to agree on the pop artist thing. I can't even tell a word they are singing and they all do sound the same. Unique she is. When I hear "In The Ghetto" thought I hear some real potential though. I understand she is really just starting out. She may evolve as many singers do. But if she doesn't then if others enjoy her music, I'm all good with that. BTW, I never like the Beatles either so that tells you how persnickty I am. When reading my opinions please consider the source, I am a bit of a snob. Ok, I admit it, I am! LOl

Yeah the pop world today is a joke, I have to wait and hear the DJ say the name before I know which of the little divas it is ROF.
I loved in the Ghetto, the song, and I absolutely adore "Don't Cry Daddy" duet. But she herself said she doesn't have anywhere near her dad's talent and tried to "hide" behind him. I think she's improved quite a lot from her first concert that I saw (but I think we discussed that private?).

I'm not a huge Beatles fan, let me re-phrase, not a fan of McCartney, ADORE Lennon, OMG I can go on about him, to me he was genius! I also quite enjoy Harrison and Ringo...but as a group I don't care for them (mostly cause of McCartney) w/exception of "Hey Jude".

A snob huh? LOL Aren't we all to some degree????

Couldn't stand Lennon! Will you still be my friend?? LOl I really hope that Lisa's music serves a purpose for her. She's still young in my mind. As a person so under her mother's thumb for so long, I think she has some growing to do. I'm thinking you will see it in her music.

OUCH, that first line, it hurt me to read it...lol
Of course, I have friends that we couldn't be further on opposite spectrums on some topics and lordy do we love to go back and forth but in a good friendly banter.
I think your right about her being under Pris thumb for so long and Pris did try to disuade her as far back as her teens and into her 20's to not pursue a career in music, and again when Lisa made her first record deal. I don't think, and I could be totally off, but I think Pris wasn't worried about Lisa following in "large footsteps" but being upstaged by her daughter, I think she always had a bit of jealousy toward Lisa, and I don't think she's too fond of some fans love for LMP, a love that she doesn't get for herself, you know what I mean?
I think Lisa is growing and improving and I look forward to her 3rd CD.

Hi Susan, i know what you mean when you refer to "generic" vocals. There are a lot of singers out there who can hit all the big notes and scream the house down Whitney style, but they also fail to sing with any truth or feeling, or vocal personality.

  16. #56
in her interview with Oprah after In the Ghetto vid was released, she said she went outside and was beside herself. in her words, 'i don't sing as well as he does, i could only hidebehind his voice so long'. she doesn't have to do the reality check.
beatles are ok, my dad loves them.

IMO and reading Lisa's lyrics she is great she could really take it to the next step and be the Lennon or the Dylan of our time she's the greatest IMO, vocally her lyrics and her voice go greatly together i mean when she sings i believe that she is saying these things from her heart!
"Why is it that we want our idols to die on a cross of their own making, and if they don?t, we want our money back? But you know, Elvis ate America before America ate him." Bono
