Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that.
Who cares, the whole world deals with weight issues. Elvis at this point was established and didn't need your approval. I know a lot of people that are overweight and are awesome people. That's just something that the media tries to push on people.
I'm starting to wonder if you're just saying this stuff to get people going here.

He did not look well there and in 76 he did gain a lot of weight, what I was referring to in the bloating, etc..(see my prev. post's) was specific to the CBS '77 concert.

I don't think Getlo meant anything bad, he said so at the end of his post...I think we fans tend to have a strong defensive mechanism w/Elvis, most anyway.

Ah, so you're yet another one of those "blame the media" types. I fail to see what this quote has to do with '77 shows. Perhaps the media was to blame for Elvis' appearance ... you know, they way they made those photos of him look extra fat!

Get people going? Please, that is the least of my concerns. I am enjoying participating in this and other threads. What's your excuse?

It's a good and positive thread so lets get back on track

I myself enjoyed majority of his concerts, those avail. for veiwing anyway, as I lived in Canada and he did not do concerts there in 70's...
I wish that he would have rested and perhaps curbed some of the concert touring, but he didn't, we can't change what was, but I do love the footage because that is all we have of him as a performer anymore, you know what I mean? Clips of him onstage are quite rare, the one's that come w/sound, etc...so I cherish them, and my heart breaks at his appearance in '77 CBS show but again, last footage of him we have so I love it. He was not fat in the end but bloated, see my prev. post on this, but his beautiful voice did not fail him, "How Great Thou Art" "Hurt" "My Way" "Unchained Melody"...Nor did his sense of humor...he stilled made the audience laugh...he gave it all he had and in my opinion he was beautiful til the very end.

I'm agreeing that he was bloated. {swollen} but had no bearing on his voice.

Your welcome, I thought it an unnecessary attack on you w/o cause whatsoever.

The Press was horrible to Elvis from 1974 and on. I can't believe some of the stuff I come across from back then. He had an awesome voice and Look even with the med build.
Yes, I do struggle with a weight problem and no matter how much I workout or not eat, it seems like I will never look like I did when I was 20. It's wrong to expect that.
The Omaha show wasn't all that great for the CBS show but the Rapid City one was ok. It was obvious that Elvis didn't want to do the TV special and some of them songs. Look at were he did fit in 100% vocally. CC Rider, That's All Right, Gave Me a Mountain, How great tho Art, Hurt, My Way and Can't Help Falling In Love.

I know from being in bands all my life that when I got tired of a song, I just didn't put my all into it. That's what I see sometimes. But knowing that I'm able to watch Elvis go through a set of songs and think, Man, Bring Steve Binder back and make him your manager and re arrange your hits to were youre into them again.

If I was only older then, maybe I could've met Elvis and told him these thought.

Some of the tabloid press may have been unfair to Elvis; that is their nature.

But just because newspapers gave negative reviews of shows during these years (and earlier than '74 in fact) does not mean they were "horrible".

Not every show was good - not every show could have been.

It wasn't until mid '75 that he started to look genuinely haggard, and he never recovered from that.
well sir, we will certainly have to agree to disagree on the above

I think there are times where Elvis looked better than the Aloha after the event, you are right in that he looked good in January of 1973. For me Elvis looked too made up for the Aloha show and didn't look natural I know that Elvis used mascara but the amount of foundation was way too much.

I think there were times in 1974 that Elvis looked as good as in Aloha and even a brief period in 1975. But I agree that 1975 was the last year that he looked really well, by 1976 he looked shocking even when thinner!

Looking at the second picture of Elvis wearing the Chief Jumpsuit, it is hard to believe that the two pictures are 21 months apart

As for picture 3, Elvis looked over made up but looked better that he had (even with the weight) for some time
