Thread: You fans of 1977 concerts

I'm not sure what Elvis' looks has to do with his concerts .
    Oh well.
It is my understanding he was being given prednisone, which does make one bloat with fluid. It's the only thing I've seen make those swift changes in someone. Which can be removed by giving diuretics.
Not saying it was what caused the changes in his appearance. but a possibility .

His looks more often than not were a clear indication of what kind of show you had just paid to see.The worse he looked, the poorer the performance. His pyhsical appearance fluctuated up and down like a roller coaster the last few years. When he manage an above average show he was always more alert and coherent and just looked heathier in general.

When you watch Elvis In Concert you can tell when they switch from Rapid City to Omaha and back because in addition to his voice being weaker, he was noticeably puffier in Omaha. They were two days apart.

Maybe click around in our Gallery and look for some examples.

But it seems to me that in his last tour in '76, he looked better than he did a couple weeks before in Vegas. Then less than two weeks later he looked really bad. Fast forward one week and he looked pretty good again. And so on...
Yeh, that makes sense. I never did think that he looked "fat" nearly as much as he looked "bloated". My mom-n-law was addicted to prescription meds in the late 70's, and she looked like she would pop and deflate if someone stuck her with a pin.

Maybe in some of the recording sessions from his last two albums but the live stuff just really sounds all together.

The CBS Special 77 "Elvis In Concert" LP versions of How Great Tho Art, Hurt, Gave Me a Mountain, My Way and even Can't Help Falling Falling Love are so vocally awesome.

I disagree, maybe you won't get all the Karate moves or fast past songs but Elvis seemed to be maturing. It was the same with Frank Sinatra, you just went to see the man, the myth and the legend and hear the awesome voice. Elvis made it clear in his last year that he had what it took to go further in his vocal abilities
He really didn't look that bad. He was getting older and had a bloating problem, so what. He's Elvis and just like loving a family member, you love that person regardless of what problems they are going through. Even more so with Elvis cause he has brought so much happiness in our hearts.

agree years go by people change its normal.elvis was still dynamite even in 76-77,..but dont waste your time trying to explain to them,,no matter what you say they will come back at you with negative comments about the later years.these people live in dreamland they expected elvis to look forever like he did in august of 70 ..its just not possible..like you said Elvis just like loving a family member, you love that person regardless of what problems they are going through. Even more so with Elvis cause he has brought so much happiness in our hearts....elvis king just the same right up until the end he gave his fans lots of great shows in 76-77

The above comments have nothing to do with wether or not a poster loves Elvis, that is beside the point. You can't say "elvis king was just the same right up until the end". Yes, he had some good shows...but they were not just the same as earlier years. Go watch "Are You Lonesome Tonight" from the 77 special...then tell me he was just the same. Who resides in dreamland?? I guess I forgot.... you are the poster telling about the people in the showroom in Vegas eating popcorn and "slow-clapping" for Elvis.

OMG...is that what you think, really? How I wish that were true, but that is obviously not the case.

What do you see when you look at pictures from Hollywood, Florida from February 1977?

Physically, he was a wreck of a human being.

    You must be kidding ...

How can you even compare Elvis' behaviour (drug-induced or not ... and it probably was!) during Are You Lonesome Tonight in the same breath as Aloha or - more bizarrely - the '68 Special?

There are many Elvis performances from 76 and 77 that I enjoy. Those moments didnt come as often as they did earlier on.There is no way those two years can be compare to his level of performance a few years prior. They pale in comparison. That point just cant be argued.I do think to say he didnt look that bad during 76 or 77 is beyond my comprehension. He looked like hell. For someone who was an adonis just 3 or 4 years prior to end up looking like that is shocking. He aged 20 years in just a few.Just browse the gallery.I mean lets be honset about it.Elvis was slowly dying in 76 and 77.I suggest you listen to Bicentennial Elvis if you want to hear what Im talking about. The New Year's Eve show is just one above average in a sea of horrible ones. That late dec tour of 76 recieved extra attention because it came on the heels of the worst tour ever. The summer of 76 was the absolute pits for Elvis. That spark in dec only lasted for a few shows and then he freefalled soon after.Compare the photos from dec 76 to what he looked like early the next year. It's beyond belief.

I suppose everyone does have the right to post in any thread .
But, it clearly states ;You fans of 1977 concerts is for people that enjoyed these concerts. As I've been told many times: just stay out of the threads that you don't like. I can't see that's any more of "trying to act like a moderator" than the same thing that's been said to me.

I've seen perfectly good sites closed because of the negativity of "fans" instead of the main purpose of creating any Elvis site.
That does not mean no one's aware that Elvis appeared very ill or might look bad . It only means we accept him as he was and enjoy him anyway.
One can't be much of a friend or anything else if we expect perfection all the time. It might be interesting to see how each of our "looks" deterioate " with time and see who loves us anyway. That seems a very fickle, false kind of love , IMO. I'm glad my family does not expect that of me. Otherwise, they'd be very disappointed.

Okay, let's fall for all the hype that EPE keeps shoving in our faces and the shows that EPE keeps repackaging over and over again, as if to say, these where the only two shows that Elvis ever did a good job at. I'm sorry but I love the Aloha concert but I don't understand why he just didn't do as much movement. I've seen parts of MSG and clips from after that show and he rocked a lot harder. If you compare the way he sang, My Way in Aloha to the CBS show in 77, there is no comparison on witch one his voice sounded better in.
