Do fans really get excited about all the hoopala? Like if you see this, do you say to yourself, Oh man, I just have to participate.
All of this commercialism really bothers me.

I posted news, like everyone else, which hoopla are you referring to? And are you asking me specifically if I get excited about this stuff? Participate in what? Looking at a website?

The whole thing is commercial, has been since his death, and to an extent prior to it as well, w/Col. Parker...

I guess I'm not understanding your post or what the complaint is w/the thread?

I think the charities are great. I was just meaning to missy its interesting to the people who like seeing what EPE had in store for people.

It's a news item, like anything else posted on here...you've posted a few yourself...take it for what it is, nobody said anything about anyone being excited. Good grief.

Also this is not in the "near or distant future" or "future plans" it's the here and now.

I bet a few have already gone and looked, even if it's out of curiousity.

    Graceland looks great in winter
Ok the whole thing is commercial...but you know, they have a christmas holidays show at Disneyland, why not in Graceland? Whatever they find to celebrate anyway, the most important thing is...its is Graceland!

No, I don't mind seeing news at all... anywhere. But I wonder, if fans will flock to Graceland because of some of the goings on. I understand the anniversary. But I don't think everything has to be so grand. I think people would go no matter what. From what I have read here, the lure, the need, to go, is because it was Elvis's home. People want to walk were he walked and I think it is like visiting him. I think, and I might be wrong, that it could be a shack in the woods, and people would go.

Missy its a honor to get to see elvis home. If l was able to go to the graceland l would be there in a second. Don't you like the fact we fans get to see graceland??

Suzan...thanks for this post! I like the "hoopla" sometimes..... Actually, Winter is my chosen time for visiting Graceland! It was Elvis' favorite time of year, and it is mine too....so my daughter and I had planned to go there this Winter, however, I doubt that we can now that my Dad is so ill. But I like reading these types of things...there's nothing wrong with posting it!

AMEN! Elvis was commercialized...anyone who is in the public eye like he was is going to be commercial in lots of ways. I don't have a problem with it prior to his death...it was done in an effort to keep his career running. I do have a problem with how he has been marketed post-humous by people who are looking to make a buck on his name! But that is another thread...

Once again, Suzan, thanx for this post....I like it! Graceland at Christmas...that's my ideal time to go!

Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..

Yes, I do P-31. That is what I have said that is so hard for me to balance. I know the fans love Elvis and have a need to somehow experince more of him, feel close to him. But then the other side of me, finds it uncomfortable. I wish I could not be like this. Maybe it is the Gemini in me. LOl I would be more comfortable with a toned down Graceland. It is my way of thinking fans can be honored in the most respectful way for Elvis. Like I said, they'd go no matter what. It isn't easy being me, both fan and family. If I never came here, I could have just had one veiw and never been tossed out of my box.

Did you ever get to meet elvis in graceland Missy? Is this why you have mixed feelings about fans touring graceland?? I often wondered what would happen if us fans didn't get to visit graceland what would happen to the home. I think Elvis would love his fans seeing where he loved to come home to time and time again. This was his great escape from hollywood and etc. Lisa doesn't seem to spend that much time there.

I understand your feelings about Graceland MissyM....everything is just too overdone...almost a circus anymore. I don't have a problem with dressing it up for Christmas as Elvis used to do that himself. It's all the tacky items for sale that goes along with it that bothers me.

if people stopped buying them diane they wouldn't be able to sell them and that would solve the problem.

You're right on Jen. There are too many people out there who will buy the tacky stuff either because they like that kind of thing or for a laugh....it's the latter that bothers me.

I plan on going to Graceland again next month......and no, I don't buy the tacky stuff, just shirts, books, cd's, or dvd's.
It's actually pretty peaceful there. Not noisy and gaudy at all. Even standing in line for the tour everyone is talking, but not loudly. Everybody just seems to be respectful of where they are.
Most of the "show" is in the advertising.
...you're moving on the back roads, by the rivers of my memory and for hours you're just gentle on my mind.

No-I've never been on Graceland but my hubs has. He tells me some stories that give me clues (the way he tells them) about what Graceland was about. I hear it in his voice. He still says no way will he go back to visit. It is good to hear how you fans have taken it in though. (with respect and all)
