    Arrow Suspicious Minds

    Hi friends,
have these feelings about suspMinds "live" versions...
I find the 69 and 70 versions SUPER, but after these two years i hear this song on stage more and more as a "throw away song".. or am i wrong about this..
never could find a really good live version after these two years...
    What's your opinion about this...

I don't know if you have any of the, Follow That Dream, Label CD's. But there are quite a few good versions of it after 1970. The 1972 Madison Square Garden version really kicked ***. The thing with Elvis' tour was, he had to pace himself after 1971. The venues where a lot bigger than a Vegas showroom, that means more movement for the nose bleed seats. On top of that staying right on when it came to vocals. Elvis might have gotten tired of some of the songs from time to time but you could always tell he was proud of his success.

Live in Madison Square Gardens was cute, my 10yr old daughter and her 11yr old friend sing that version all the time...."shove it up your nose" and "I hope this suit don't tear up baby" is their favorite parts.

I think Elvis performed some great versions of this song later in the 70's,but I understand what you're meaning. He made fun about it.
I'd like to go to Graceland

I have wondered how any artist can do the same things over and over again and still keep the fire in it. Not just singers, but actors in a play or a comic doing the same jokes night after night. The repetition would drive me crazy. For me it might be a short drive.

Couldn't agree more KPM. By '74 the song had definitley lost that spark. But I did like the beginning of it when Ronnie comes in on the drums..but still I wouldn't call it a throwaway.

I agree Tony. I hear no drastic change in the speed of the song..sounds about the same as all other versions from around that time to my ears..but as the years went on, and by '74 the song was more faster than it was from a couple of years before..which is normal..same thing happened with Hurt, If You love Me, Fairytale and probably a few others..after performing them year after year the faster the band would play the song..

My favorite is the Afternoon in the Garden version.
"When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was a hero in the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times. I learned very early in life that without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend; without a song. So I keep singing a song." - Elvis Presley
