Thread: Black Cossack (1969) aka Black Herringbone

For my money, Elvis never looked or sounded better in concert than he did in 1969... 1970 runs a close second.

    Great pics!

he also wore it when he met Nixon. You can see it underneth the drapped over coat.

I really like this one. I am more of a fan of the more simple suits like this and also The I Got Lucky suit!

I must agree......he was never more breathtaking than his first concert and press conference in 1969, except maybe the black leather performances....... charming, charasmatic, sexy, breathtaking............

This was an awesome suit for Elvis! It was so straight-lined...made him look very tailored. I love the way it gives him the appearance of added heighth too....

Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..

And it had that belt with those tassels whipping around his legs when he moved and grooved.....very sexy

This image (below) has also been attributed to the 31st July opening show ...........

However, I'm not entirely convinced Elvis wore the two piece 'Press Conference' suit during the 31st July show, here's why.
Ever since I saw it said that he wore the press-conference suit on July 31 I've found it unlikely for the same reasons. On the other hand, he could very well have had two black two-piece suits made, each identical to the other.

For some reason, and I can't now remember if it's related to reading original reports from the show in 1969 newspapers and the like (the copies I made from microfiche back around 1990 are in storage right now), I was under the impression that Elvis wore the more jumpsuit-like two-piece black outfit with red godets (kickpleat inserts) on opening night.

Somehow I don't find it possible that he would appear at the Presss Conference in the same suit he performed in b/c don't you think it would have been all wet and sweaty???? I did read that Bill Belew had several suits made of similiar designs and some were duplicates. In the Press Conference he appears all fresh and put back together rather than what was shown as the last number of the opening performance where he is weary and tousled and quite a delicious a mess.
