If Elvis mom didn't died at the early age of 42, will it makes a great difference ?
I personally believe the early dead of Elvis mom significantly turned his life around. His gradual decline all started when his mom departed which was aggravated more with other family problems like the separation. I believe we could have witnessed a different Elvis if his mom was still around.
I agree with that. Many of his friends said that he was sooo close to her and that he changed after he lost his mom...
If she had still been alive...he probably would have felt differently about a lot of things...

She was 46 when she died....but yes...I think that hurt him very much and he never got over it. I think had she lived - she would have squashed some of his bad habits.

I DO think he was quite attached to her and hurt him deeply when she died.

He was very close to his mother, but I don't really think she would have such a big influence over his bad habits...Once he married and got all his MM friends, I'm not sure he would have cared so much about what she'd say. But I can't be absolutly sure
I can't guess exactly how much Elvis' life would have been different had his mother lived but it would have somewhat. I don't think the MM would be tolerated by his mother to be around as much as they were and they may have been fewer. I don't think Priscilla would have been allowed to move into Graceland.

The only thing I firmly believe is that Elvis would have been more content - not so troubled about why he was put on this earth. He would have talked to Gladys & she would have made him feel better. As far as Priscilla? She would have loved Priscilla & she pretty much let Elvis do what he wanted even if she didn't approve. She didn't kick up a fuss when he rode around the countryside on his Harley. Remember she wanted Elvis to settle down & have a family, she wanted babies in the house. Priscilla was well-mannered, she loved Elvis & Elvis thought the world of Priscilla. But then maybe Gladys would have encouraged Elvis to stay with June. Gladys loved June! I don't think Elvis' womanizing would have been as - shall I say 'out of hand'? I think Elvis still would have sought out other women. Women would still have been throwing themselves at him, that's just what happens in that industry. Imo, I don't think that Gladys could have kept him off drugs, she was supposedly an alcoholic, at the very least, she loved to drink beer, maybe she wouldn't have been as afraid to confront him as some of the others were. I also, think that he wouldn't have had some of the friends he had at the house, she did mention to him on occasion that she didn't approve of some of his friends & Elvis no longer invited them around. I also think that Elvis wouldn't have stuck it out with Col Parker, Gladys never did trust or like him, she would have figured out how to get rid of him especially when Elvis was so depressed by his movie career.

I don't know everything about Elvis' relationship to his mother, but it sounds weird that he would listen to her regarding the girls he was dating...I don't think she could have changed that.
Pauline, Elvis was very devoted to his mom and cared greatly what she thought. I do think it would have made his life turn out differently had she lived. It tore him apart to lose her.

I think Gladys dying had more of an impact on Elvis life than any event before or after...I think it created a great fear of losing in him....and when the divorce came about and he felt that he had lost his family it made it all the more difficult for him and harder to deal with.....I think his life would have been a lot different had she lived.....My own mother died when I was nine and it had a fairly similar effect on my life for a long time..probably still does.
It just seemed like he was on a path of progress when she was alive. I read, "Gladys and Elvis" and they talked about how, she always wanted to be an actress. It was Elvis' first choice and music was second. He did achieve the acting status but not the one he wanted. King Creole was probably the closest he got to what he wanted.
I believe she was his voice of reason too. He is quoted in 1960 as saying,"a mother is someone you could wake up at any hour and talk to", Even though he would go out on tour, party and mess with a bunch of girls, he at least came home to his mother. I don't know about the drug thing cause from what I gathered, he got that habit from watching her take pills. In fact, Marty Lacker once told me that he believes the first time Elvis took anykind of pills was when he'd take it from his mother's pill bottle. I'm talking the early 50s. I also read that he once got mad at her for having a beer early in the morning. So now we have someone he had to take care of. Once she was gone he became more needy and wanted his women to take care of him.
I think his mother was someone he never wanted to let down nor disappoint.
So surely if she had lived his life would have unfolded completely different- I would think.
I do think Elvis' life would have turned out differently if his mother had lived. He had such love and respect for her. I think she was the one person in his life who he would have listened to.

"Because, when she died, a part of him died"....I have heard someone saying that in some interview and it's so true.
He lost control over himself when she died, that's what I think.
Yes, he never wanted to disappoint her or hurt her, so yeah, it would have been VERY different.
No doubt it would have made hell of a differenceElvis and Gladys were two berries very fond of and keen on each others. It was unconditional love that they shared.

One thing I do believe Gladys could have helped him with had she lived was all the questions he had on religion and life running around in his head. She was the one person he could really talk to and believe what she had to say. On the other hand, had she not died when she did, these questions may not have surfaced. I always thought a lot of it had to do with losing her.
