Anxiously awaiting answers, as I am planning the same thing! Know what they say about great minds...! By the way, we're neighbors.
Hey, ya'll. I'm trying to plan my Christmas vacation. Has anyone been to Memphis at Christmas? Is it something you would recommend? Any and all hints, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Memphis is only one of my 3 choices, by the way, but they are all Elvis related!
Just pretend, I'm holding you, and whispering things soft and low.
And think of me, how it's gonna be and just pretend I didn't go

...you're moving on the back roads, by the rivers of my memory and for hours you're just gentle on my mind.
Never been to Graceland...But it looks great under the snow: http://epjapan.com/Snow.htm
Rover, thanks so much for posting that link....it indeed looks beautiful during the winter...I went in June so it was hot!
Here's a couple of sites to check out:

Christmas at Graceland......Graceland’s front lawn is decorated in its traditional holiday splendor, while the back pasture and Graceland Plaza area across Elvis Presley Boulevard are decked out with more than 2 million brilliant lights, featuring a 120-foot tree --- all donated by Jennings Osborne. Parking is free after 5 p.m. and there is no charge to view the light display. The only charge is for the special Mansion tour.

I think it would be a great trip at Christmas. I would love to see the decorations in the mansion and the outdoor lighting.
I love Graceland at winter![]()
Taking Care of BusinessTil we meet you again, may God bless you, Adios.
Never been to Graceland at Christmas . Always had family celebrations then.
Was there many times, but always in the summer.
Very .very, HOT !!
I've thought about going for Christmas ; especially as I got older and free to go. My family would be very unhappy with me though.
I bow to their wishes .![]()
Graceland at Christmas is something I couldn't recommend more highly. I went there with my family and my parents and a few other relatives in December '99, and I am hoping to pull that off again this year.
Aside from the magic of being among all the thousands of fellow fans in the closed off section of EP Blvd during the night of the Candlelight Vigil, no other trip to Graceland has been nearly as memorable for me.
If you're a "Christmas person" and you like Elvis, and you consider how much Elvis got into the spirit of the holiday, there is really nothing like it. Seeing the place decorated as he had it and with the aforementioned light displays that he would have appreciated it is really something to see. One of the biggest perks of the experience (and I hope this hasn't changed...better check elvis.com) is that with your Mansion Tour ticket you can go back through the house during the evening, unguided, at your own pace and with Elvis' Christmas songs playing throughout the house. How could anything compare?
It goes without saying but another nice plus is the lack of heat and humidity that summertime Memphis vacationers have to endure, which as you know this year was deadly.
I hope you make it there Lisa and enjoy it as I have.

...you won't forget me when I go.
Lonnie, you're so lucky to have seen Graceland in December
Did you take any pics?

In my opinion you cannot beat Graceland at christmas. There really is a magical feel to it, like lapland is to a child.
I've been there twice and the attmosphere is great. It's calmer than August which i perfer, and you can dress for whatever the weather throws at you. The first time it was really cold (Jan 1993.) but when i went back in Jan 2005 it seemed more mild. It really is a pretty picture with every room decorated as Elvis was still alive. Not forgetting the front lawn nativity scene and the blue lights up the driveway. Christmas Elvis songs aloud over the Graceland Plaza shops too.
Give me Graceland at christmas anytime over Graceland in August.
Elaine.
Thanks for sharing these pics, now I'm in a Christmas mood...![]()
I would love to go at Christmas. Graceland looks amazing in the pictures. Fingers crossed I will be there Christmas 2009
between the photo's and the descriptions, you guys have me in tears now....it sounds so wonderful! Elaine says hearing Elvis at Graceland plaza singing Christmas songs....man...when I was there in June between the music at the plaza and the music at heartbreak hotel, I was in my element big time! I so wish to go there during the holiday. Thanks for sharing your experiences..
Thank you all so very much! I think Memphis is definitely a yes for me now! Does it always snow like this? It doesn't look like much - not like Maine!
I should have looked into this sooner! I could have been in Memphis for the formal lighting of Graceland. That looks spectacular! Well, I think I've decided to go to Memphis! My other choices were Las Vegas - my neice is getting married - or Chicago. I've been to Memphis before, but only in the summer - hot & humid! Thanks again for all the input!
