I?ll say his biggest achievement was crossing the lines between the white?s and black?s music and demostrate that it has no color.
And another one, at least to him I think, was when he was awarded one of the 10 outstanding men of the year.

I think his greatest achievement was his cultural influence on the world.What happened between 1956 and 1958 changed popular culture forever.Never before or since has one person affected the world as much with his talent.

I think his biggest acheivement is that for a boy with no training in singing or much education became the greatest entertainer in history i mean he never wrote songs like lennon or dylan but 30 yrs after he died 75000 turn up to celebrate his life without the millions at home as well you are right in what you say about crossing the racial divide but its more than that a single man and just a singer changed the course of the music world and the world we live in as well, none of us would be friends without him i say what a achievement for a poor boy from tupelo not bad in my eyes simply the greatest singer and entertainer the world will ever know and i thank him for everything,
I think being able to feel music and interperate the lyrics to a song like no other entertainer. I say this because there were plenty of rockers, singers and such at the time. But there was just something about the way he, Elvis sang that can not be duplicated. It was as if he got into the soul of the writer.

'68 Comeback. How many others do you know that came back and made it that big? Not many, if any.

EP had many achieving accomplishments during his career. But nothing stood out more than his selling out all four shows at Madison Square Garden in 3 days and performing to 80,000 spectators in the world's media capital in 1972. He also had something to prove to the NY audience at that point of his career. Ricky Nelson got booed off the stage earlier that same year when he tried to change his image and be more of a rocker and his old standard fans did not like that. This was why he wrote the song Garden Party.
This almost killed Nelson's career. It could have killed EP's career had he have waited until around 1976 or 77 to do the NY shows. It would have been a disaster considering how bad of shape he was in at that time. What if the CBS special in 1977 had been at Madison Square Garden instead? You think the overweight dying image is bad now, imagine if it had been in the Big Apple instead of a Midwestern town. The NY media would have tortured EP. he would have probably gone into hiding. But then again it might have woke him up and saved him. Who knows.
But because EP played the Garden at the time he did, which was still in his prime, it showed the city and media that he was still the King! To this day EP's 4 sell out shows in 3 days in 1972 is still a Garden record and a real milestone. No act or event has ever challenged this defeat. In fact The Garden did a recent countdown of the 100 greatest moments in garden history and EP's performances were the highest ranked concerts at #3 behind Ali/Frazier fight and another sporting event. To make it in NY shows that you can make it anywhere. And EP did just that. Also it came 16 years after his first television appearance which were in NY too.
The Aloha From Hawaii satellite special was a landmark event. But anytime you sell out the Garden is a monumental accomplishment, no matter who you are. But it's an unbelievable accomplishment to sell it out four shows in three days as EP did June 9, 10, and 11, 1972.

Yes I agree nothing was the same after that 2 year explosion of "rock-n-roll" which he led the way on.
You might look at it as a non violent coup of young people led by Elvis's talent to rock and roll. It reached around the globe.
I wish that were true but I thought I had heard that record has been broke several times since 1972- Billy Joel now holds that record:
In 2006, Billy Joel set a record with a string of 12 sold-out performances, breaking the record of 10 set by Bruce Springsteen in 2000. On night 12 of the stand, MSG raised a #12 to the rafters on top of the Garden to join the numbers of Rangers and Knicks players that have had their numbers retired by their respective teams, making Joel the first ever non-sports individual to have his "number" retired at The Garden. The concerts were released as the album 12 Gardens Live in 2006.
Billy Joel does hold the record for the most sellouts at the Garden. This was mentioned recently on a TV show. But EP holds the record for the most sellout shows in a short span which was 4 shows in 3 days. This year Justin Timberlake sold out all 3 of his shows at the Garden but in different months. 1 in February or March and the other 2 were on August 15 and 16.

Just why would Elvis wait until 1976 to play the Garden ?
By '76, Elvis was playing to mostly secondary markets aroud the U.S., due to his ailing health and appearance. Even the Col. was smarter than that.
This wouldn't even be a thought, considering the producers of the CBS special had no intention of releasing the "Elvis In Concert" special until after Elvis died .What if the CBS special in 1977 had been at Madison Square Garden instead?

I believe his biggest achievement was his enduring power when he was alive and after his death. His staying power will never be surpassed by anyone living or dead. He just kept coming back and refused to be forgotten. Imagine Elvis burst into the music scene in the mid 50's and here we are today talking about the guy. Isn't it just fantastic?
I agree with this statement. What's so surprising; I don't think he even realized it.
His biggest achievment? I'd say it is what he did through his whole life. Becoming famous, keeping up with the fame, creating an original character on stage that would inspire many many fans, keeping performing on stage even if his health wasn't so great, and being remember 30 years after his death...just wow.
