sorry I read the same thing, Elvis had Vernon do the firing because he felt bad and didn't have the guts...only time Elvis fired anyone was when he would get mad in the heat of the moment..

i also want to clarify, you guys keep referring to the MM as the ones who wrote, "Elvis, What Happened" that was only 3 of them - there are more..."Revelations From The Memphis Mafia" was written by Lamar Fike/Marty Lacker & Billy Smith....those are another 3 members....then there is Joe Esposito and Charlie Hodge - and Joe has written several books....not sure about Charlie.....I'm just clarifying the ones you are bashing are Sonny/Red & Dave H.

They also don't want to share what is private, publicly, yet they can't stand reading what is being said, it is just so wrong. So, they feel they should give their view, anonymously. As you know, the MM personally attacks anyone, who was a friend of Elvis' who questions or contradicts what they say, too. (You can come to your own conclusions of why, I'm sure). Telling, huh?

You know Elvis really didn't know many people personally other than those he surrounded himself with 24/7.

Perhaps if you could list 7 or 8 of his other friends we would know what angle you are coming from?

As im quite confused as to who these people who were 'friends' with Elvis were when he kept his close friends with him all the time.

    Hi Kelly,

My point is, is that some of the MM wrote negative stories, divulged private occasions, to make money. (Yes you know that). There are friends of Elvis', who were also there, who are contradicting what some of the MM say, completely. (They are then attacked for it).

That is my point. The fans can't be blamed for what they read, as thinking it is true, but it is simply one side of the story, written, to sell, which a lot of the time, is twisted to make money for the writer. This is telling. It is the ones who keep their mouths shut, have over many years, who are the true friends. They will also tell you stories, but with compassion, love and understanding, not written with a slant that wasn't the way it was, but the way it was perceived to be, or changed to be, to suit their purpose. I just hope, that I may have suggested something, that you may now think, that there is another side to the story, that is all I am trying to do, and I hope you don't mind.

    Stryx, no, as I've explained, I won't/can't.

My angle? Is what I've just said to Kelly.

Ya know I sure would like someone on this forum to start guessing who these friends of Elvis's are that seem to contradict things that happened and as you mentioned earlier that did not write any books.

Elvis kept his friends with him 24/7, we all know who they are. Who are these extra people?

Now don't go suggesting ol Wanda Hill.....Billy Smith nearly floored my *** in August over her!!!

Your using the word friend(s) though.

Apart from the MM Elvis didn't really know many others all that well.

Sorry Gal but phantoms and ghosts don't belong in serious conversations about Elvis's life. If they don't have the guts to admit who they are and what they believe in then I doubt Elvis really knew them.....all his other friends are well able to express themselves and im truly at a loss to figure who your ones are.

    Be good.

No offense but from all accounts Elvis didnt have many friends hidden in the background.Elvis kept only a select few close that were privy to his private life. That was why the "What Happened "book was so sensational.Elvis had a veil of secrecy cloaked around him and only allowed a few people on the inside. Please remember that everybody that saw Elvis in a hallway became close personal friends in their mind. Many that claim to have been close to Elvis were not.The MM for better or worse were his main entourage and the ones who saw him warts and all.Right up until nearly his death Elvis maintained a squeaky clean image of the all american boy because of this. When he died his friends came out of the woodwork.Elvis was cordial to many people, but he only kept a select few around.

What do you mean cashed in, very few are living high off the hog. (except for the ones who kissed Cilla's butt) They worked for someone who was diffficult to work for for years and once they didn't that was the end of it. They then had to make it on their own and rely on what they could do.

Kim (it always confuses me why your id says Jess but your name is Kim...lol) anyway...i complete understand what you are saying. You do have me intrigued though as to who your inside contact is. Suzan always hints at the same thing - like you guys have inside info and we'd all love to know who these insiders are.....it's really hard to take what you say as gospel without knowing the source........but either way - I enjoy a good debate and I think if we do it without getting nasty - it's fun!

So what Jess is saying is that there was some small group of friends who did not live with Elvis but know more than those who did. Ok then.

Then until you can, your claims re these phantom friends have no credibility. It's the same as that old journalistic chestnut "a source close to the star said last night ..."

    Precisely.

And if these phantoms know the "real truth" that suposedly counters all of the MM's "lies", why not just come out and say what they know ... perhaps in an unpaid interview or something, where no one can make a buck?

Jerry for one, does (I don't know Jerry).

    Again, this is exactly why.

Jerry actually wrote a book, appears on DVD's and interacts with the fans. The people who you claim to know who claim to have known Elvis seem rather perculiar in the fact that they don't do it and insist on being anonymous.

Anonymous tip off's and calls are rarely given credibility and im afraid that this "source" deserves just that.

Post your comments and thoughts etc... but please refrain from saying your source unless you wish to name them as we could all have "sources" which we refuse to name.

Some of us who know the MM do post what they feel - but we actually attribute it to them rather than to a phantom friend.

    Yes.

So why is it that we are the ones who get jumped on every time we ask someone for their sources ... ?

" ... Graceland was going to be bulldozed for a highway ..."
" ... the Colonel stole Elvis from Sam Phillips ..."
" ... the MM are banned for life from Graceland ..."
" ... I know friends of Elvis who know the real truth ..."

    Gimme a break.
