Sorry, bad english today, I was refering about the reason of the sunglasses in places where there is no sun, I mean at night or inside a house.

It could have been just about fashinon, and that its cool, as he surely looked good on them and they are part now of his 70's persona just as the pink cadillac was in the 50's, but it is still weird to wear them in you living room at christmas time or during an interview isn?t it?

Yes you are right, it was probably just the fashinon of the day, didn?t matter if you were in places were you don?t need sunglasses, you still wear them cause it looks cool isn?t it?

I?ve have also notice that every time Elvis looked nervous and slur a word people got into the he?s into something, yes Elvis did had a bad habit on pills, but as you pointed out, back in '56 he was clean, and mostly he seemed to be as much as nervous, and not very well articulated as during the 70's, some people just tend to slur when they speak, nothing to do with drugs.

Sure he didn?t looked as fresh as when he was 21 but hey, he wasn?t 21 anymore and going through hard times in a personal level.

Now is he on drugs here? check out the same kind of heavy breathing during the of the interview, same nervous movements, and the way he moves his hands and the way he moves his head back trying to articulate things.

Thank you Raised On Rock for posting this interview with Elvis by Wink Martindale. It's my favorite interview of all time! Who else do you know would act so natural lounging on a jukebox and chewing gum while being interviewed.
I don't think I've even known anyone so unselfconscious as Elvis was at that time.

There were similarities in his head movements in the two interviews as you stated so I guess partly what was going on with him at the Aloha interview could be regarded as just Elvis except that at the Aloha one he didn't act comfortable or happy at all - very uptight to me in fact.

    .

Elvis was definitely under the influence of drugs ... for both of the Aloha press conferences.

Or should I say, more than usual under the influence.

One sure sign is the way (in the first press conference) he stops mid-word in some sentences as he raises his hand to his sunglasses.

    Sad.

But he still looked cool in that first press conference ... but not the second one.

    Hehe, you are right.
    I haven't noticed that before
He was definitely clean in 1956 ...and true, he is making the same mannerisms - funny for a public man like him.

    We will never know though....

Can't tell if it's drugs or lack of sleep or something else in this Aloha interview...
Just a question, when did he start taking drugs? Do we know?

I believe it was in the army...
Because after his mother died, he had problems with sleeping and needed some hep to fall asleep.
I may be wrong ..I don't know for sure.

He was on drugs from 1958 onwards in one way or the other.

People talk about Elvis slurring his words from back in the fifties. That's true, he did.

But it's obvious that Elvis was out of it in both the Aloha press conferences.

    Stevie Wonder could've seen that!

He had trouble sleeping before his mom died....he would have terrible nightmares and also sleep walk to the point it was dangerous. He started taking pills before he went into the army according to Revelations of the Memphis Mafia - his mom would take diet pills (amphetamines) and he would steal them, he liked the way they made him feel....I'm not sure when exactly he started with sleeping pills though.

There?s a huge difference between his slurring from the 50?s to these 2 from the Aloha. He can?t breath properly in the Aloha?s ones and as someone said on another post anyone that have lived the situation can comfirm what it was without thinking twice.
Anyway it?s nothing new and has been discussed hundred of times but we?ll never agree here...

That's my point. The difference here is that Elvis was heavily under the influence of drugs in these two press conferences in the 70s. Especially in the second one ... the dialogue "It's a great privilege (mumble, mumble)" etc. Almost incoherent.

you know what? it's sad either way you look at it.....50's/60's/70's......it's just all sad....period.

I know that was your point I just wanted to use your sentence about Elvis in the 50?s slurring his words.

Talking of tinted glasses. Some Elvis fans wear rose tinted ones, but a lot also wear murky muck coloured glasses too.

All these "definitely" "certainly" "absolutely" "its a fact" statements I want to know sources and, having heard hundreds of different hanger on accounts, secondary sources don't cut it with me no-more - least of all any of the Smiths.
Primary sources alone can be definite and, alas, the primary source is 30 years gone.

Yup, sure agree with you Conor. There are always those who prefer to see a dark side.

I stick with what I'm sure I heard in an interview with some of the MM about Elvis cleaning up for the Aloha concert.
