    Aloha Interview

    Hi
Well...I was watching videos on youtube and came up with the Aloha Interview and watched it again.
What I would like to know is the date of the interview...please

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IAkTAyJCWqM

And err...Elvis looks really confused and lost in it.
Was he only tired? - or it wasn't his day or are the drugs taking their part here...?
I don't this thread to be turned into an argument, so let's respect everyone's opinion

    Thanks ,

    Marija

I've seen this video before Marija and I agree, he doesn't seem himself on it. I read somewhere or saw in an interview with some of the MM (think that's where it was) that he had gone off the drugs for the upcoming interview and concert and possibly the nervousness was caused by a mild case of withdrawals?

Didn't know that... Yes, maybe that's the reason
He's cute anyway Thanks for the replay Diane.

It?s obvious... I just can feel sadness for him watching this. I don?t know if he ever saw this interview but it would have been really good to him to do it and know how he presented himself to the public at the time. I think he tried to fool himself for a long time and pretended people wouldn?t notice.

September 2, 1972 is when it took place I believe. I could be wrong on the day but it took place in September of 1972

The date was Sept. 4, 1972, the closing day of his summer festival in Vegas. Somebody on here probably knows for sure whether it was between shows that day or after the closing show. He seemed tired, but he could of also been a little under the influence as well, just not sure. He also gave another press conference on Nov. 20, 1972 in Honolulu for the special. He seemed nervous and out of it then too, and this was only six or seven weeks before the telecast.

It was, in fact, after the closing show.

He was definitely under the influence here...most likely downers or sleeping pills.

He was, once again, under the influence of either some kind of downer or sleeping pill...you can tell by the way he slurs his words.

And to say that he was clean for both of the performances themselves is also another myth....he definitely had something in him for the rehearsal show and the actual telecast...if I'm not mistaken, David Stanley was asked (by Elvis himself) to inject Elvis with a shot of B-12 mixed with amphetamines right before he went on stage....

He may have looked his best and sounded his best but things were already beginning to unravel for him....

After watching the Aloha Special a few times, I personally don't think Elvis looked his best as some others do....he was starting to get a bit puffy if you look at his face close.....he was told to lose 30lbs for that show - might have had something to do with it - he did look handsome as ever - but I don't think he looked his best.

Yeah, I was just reading his post Thank you Tony too
Tony, Elvis looked fine to me on the Rehearsal...but yes, maybe he was under influence.
I prefer the rehearsal show more then the actual telecast. He seemed more relaxed

Another thing : I noticed on the Post- Concert session that he looked fed up and he couldn't wait the session to finish lol.
Am I wrong or you guys have noticed that too?

There's no "maybe" to it...he was under the influence of sedatives/downers...you can tell it most during the introductions of the band and that's also one reason he seemed so much more relaxed.....

That was one of the first things I noticed in the "post-concert" sessions for the "insert" songs but if my memory is correct, they filmed these right after the concert (which was a stupid move, IMO) and Elvis and everyone else were tired and they didn't finish shooting until way later that morning, I believe. I read that after this little session that Elvis went to his hotel and slept straight through for nearly 24 hours.

Closed places? What are you referring to? Yes, Elvis did have glaucoma but he wore the sunglasses both inside and outside so I guess I don't fully understand what you mean by "closed places"...it was actually "secondary glaucoma" and frankly, I find sunglasses to be a very odd way of treating this condition.

    Ok, ok....he was...jeez lol.
I say "maybe" because he seemed normal to me
The introductions......yes, you are right, especially the part where he mentioned that the raised money from the concert go to the "cancer" thing.....he even messed it up a little in the actual show on January 14-th

Well he deserved sleeping 24 hours....nice to hear that he could actually fall asleep after that, or maybe he did it with little help , hihi

I generally agree with what you said Tony

Thanks, for posting the link marija!
Elvis loved wearing glasses and looked cool in them, but it would be great to see his eyes!

He does look nervous and not himself in this interview!

Back in the 70's it was cool to wear colored glasses, tinted. Elvis always talked that way, look at some of his earlier interviews back in the 50's you will see the same mannerisms.

I dream a world where man no other man
will scorn. Where LOVE will bless the earth
    and peace its paths adorn...
