I don't know why he cose to sing "My Boy". But i'm glad he did because when my cousin was murdered in "85" my uncle chose that song to be sang at my cousins funeral. My cousin wasn't an Elvis fan,but my uncle & i are.

I believe the last time Elvis performed My Boy for the last time was on December 2nd 1975 Opening Night in Las Vegas.
On 2-12-1977 he performed a one liner of the song but that was all

well he sings the song with such power passion and emotion that i think it was ment for his daughter and the way things were in his personal life as so many of his songs around that time seemed to reflect what was going on in his personal life and as my boy was the name of the song you really could not change it to fit but a fantastic song sung as only elvis could
