    My Boy

This might be a silly question, but why did elvis choose to sing my boy??? Is there any meaning behind that song?

I don't think so but it's one of my favourite...so much passion in that song and performance

    No idea Jen.
But sometimes I believe it has some meaning behind it I mean, just listen the way he sang it.....

It seems he sang it for his daughter, the lyrics sympolises his own life, and how love has died between "your mother and me" and he wants his child understand him and his life better when he grows up!

It clearly was ment for Lisa and the situation at home, but it is a bit odd to hear him tell my boy

He liked Richard Harris' version, that's all, and wanted to cover it. No hidden meaning.

he couldn,t say"my daughter" instead of "my boy" so clearly! "my boy" is just a symbol.maybey he liked this version and liked o sing it because it portrayed his own life and emotions.

You're thinking of Danny Boy, which was allegedly Vernon's favourite song.

I feel Elvis just liked the song and it was a coincidence that it almost mirrored what happened in his own life.

Just listen to the song and you'll know. This was the story of his life (or at least the way he saw it). My favorite version is the one that had been released by FTD on "Dixiland Rocks" (Murfreesboro May 1975). Just great. Nobody will ever sing this song the way Elvis did it. Hail to the king!

I agree. Elvis' 1975 live versions are superior to the studio recording - however I prefer the version on the 'Big Boss man' cd from March 1975 - tremendous version! Unfortunately, the song lost some appeal with Elvis and it was dropped from the setlist after 1975.

My Boy goes hand in hand with a lot of what EP was recording in late 72/73, thus the brilliant, passionate performance.

Getlo that was the song indeed.
    Thanks.
