THAT is a downright travesty....how on Earth could EPE allow EOT to be released on DVD like this??? DON'T BE CRUEL is so short, they have to repeat the first verse a second time just to make it long enough to run over the credits...AND it has the "before I kick your ***" line in it, which I admit is amusing, but NOT as the first song of the movie!!

I was looking SO forward to EOT finally being released on DVD....now this...

...but considering EPE's track record, I guess I should have saw something like this coming...

    TCB!

P.S. Thanks David for posting the link!

You are welcome for posting it but yeah if this is true this would be just so wrong cause Johnny B Goode just fit so well in the opening sequence it set the tone to the movie Don't be cruel does not fit at all and it is just a copy and paste job annd yeah they had to repeat one of the verses with it being short!!!!!! Lets just hope it is just a rumor but we will see once it gets released in the theatres and on DVD!!

EPE has nothing at all to do with this release. It's Warner who own the rights to it. EPE owns Aloha and the 68 special, both of which received comprehensive multi-disc releases. If that "track record" had been emulated by Warner, we'd have got Elvis On Tour with outtakes, not a butchered original with no additional footage.

While it's a shame that the original has been edited, the new version is a reasonable effort to make something that works.
I think that Warner actually deserve credit here, one must remember that they were pushed in to this by the copyright holder, and this is the individual to blame.
Don't blame Warner or EPE, this was all done to a selfish individual holding out for more money.
The extras that we all know exist, well that again was because an agreement could not be reached, but that seems to be at a more corporate level, this was an individual trying to play hard ball regarding JBG.
Money issues is the common route behind this and the non release of all those great hours of film we know exist.

Not really, because if they had their hands tied with the copyright issue, they didn't have to go with such a lame edit to replace the track. There were MUCH better, more explosive options.

    Cadillac King,

more explosive?, yes possibly there could have been another song choice, I will agree with you there.
I am just so relieved that Warner did not take the easy path and not release the EOT at all. I can imagine them taking the easy way out when presented with this copyright problem. Can you imagine our feelings if we got to hear that EOT was not going to be released because of an problem with JBG? One song over the credits, boy the shi* would really hit the fan then!.
Instead they took the time and spent the money to come up with a solution, it's not the best and not the worst, but they deserve credit for not taking the easy cheap route out of the situation by just not releasing EOT.

Of course I want the extra footage and re-instatement of JBG, but i can be happy just to get EOT on BLU-Ray high def. I am sure it's going to look fantastic.

As I said in the other thread, sorry about that....I should have said Warner Bros.

    Thanks for correcting me T_J.

My thoughts exactly Jimmy! When I watched that footage, without JBG, it just didn't look right at all...

If this is true, it ruins the complete movie in the first 3 opening minutes!!!!

Taking out Johnny B is like total ignorance!

I`m really really hoping that it`s just a joke....that was terrible. Even if there is any truth to them not being able to use "Johnny B. Goode" they could have done a lot better than that...ruins the whole start of the movie if you ask me.Considering how long we`ve been waiting for this one it`s almost an insult to throw us something like this...bad form...if it`s true!

Re: New opening for elvis on tour

The You Tube video does not look like it was done by anyone who works in the film industry and remasters tapes for a living-so I really do not think this is for real.
But if it is for real-perhaps they had trouble getting musical clearances for Johnny B???

Re: New opening for elvis on tour

This feels total amateur, I don't think its true. If it is, christ sake! and they are paying people for that load of crap job?

If Johnny B Good cannot be used for sure, (and that would really suck), that is no excuse to make such a poor editing job and on such a bad choice.

Don't be Cruel, and that particular lame version, just doesn't fit. My choice for the opening credits would be: Big Hunk O' Love, same studio rehearsals from Johnny B was taken. Burning Love could be another good posibility. My choice for sure would also be to hire a pro to do the job and get rid of the clown how did this.

Well, I watched it and it looks really stupid right away... what can i say? Probably they've replaced the 2001 intro with the original one too... Any other info on the movie as a whole?

"Johnny B Goode" will not be in the final print/release of "Elvis On Tour" because, yes, they did have a problem with getting the rights to use the song so....it's all Chuck Berry's fault for them not being allowed to use it.

I doubt Mr. Chuck Berry has anything to do with this, also I doubt he has any saying. ( I might even say I doubt he knows anything about it)

Its all about the publishing company that owns your music catalogue.

Re: New opening for elvis on tour

I just heard from one of my Elvis buddies that it's not just Johnny B that's being cut out of the film. She told me that the whole movie is super edited. It is not the original. I really hope that her sources is wrong because I think a lot of hearts will be broken if this isn't what they've made it out to be.
