London - Elvis Presley's family heritage is getting people all shook up in north-east Scotland, as fans across the world prepare to mark the 30th anniversary of his death.
Although the singer's distant Scottish heritage is generally accepted, 91-year-old Jack Pressley, from Fraserburgh, north of Aberdeen, believes genealogists have got it wrong.
Officially, the entertainer known as The King is descended from emigre blacksmith Andrew Presley, the 10th son of Andrew Presley and Elspeth Leg, who married in the tiny village of Lonmay, Aberdeenshire, on August 27, 1713.
But Pressley - who is a relative of the Scotland and Celtic footballer Steven - says that is not true.
"They've got the wrong Andrew. It was a nephew of the Andrew that got married in Lonmay who went to America," he told the Independent On Sunday newspaper.
Scottish author Allan Morrison, who wrote about Elvis's Scottish link in a 2004 book The Presley Prophecy, disagreed.
"I don't know where he's coming from with that claim. I'm coming from four independent sources with mine," he was quoted as saying.
Yet Jack Pressley's suggestion has led to other locals coming forward.
Jim Presley, 70, from Oldmeldrum, near Lonmay, said: "Both myself and my sister have been interested in this for some time. Also my wife always thought our son James looked like Elvis when he was younger."
Apart from a brief stop on the tarmac of Prestwick airport near the western city of Glasgow in 1960, Elvis never visited Scotland.
Nonetheless, the appropriately named Mike King, of Philip King kilt-makers, has spotted the potential: an Elvis tartan - in his favourite colours of black, blue, pink and gold - will be unveiled in Aberdeen later this week.
Meanwhile, singer Andy Woodward will attempt to set a world record for the number of live Elvis tribute performances by one person in a single day on Thursday. The 35-year-old will attempt 30 performances at London landmarks.

I didn't know elvis had scottish in him, you wouldn't of noticed if he did.
Looking at Vernon I always thought he looked scots or irish. My first impression of Gladys was that she had some italian but it turned out to be jewish. I was close anyway.

there are rumours that elvis might (MIGHT!) have german ancestors as well (from the 'pfalz' in southwestern germany), family 'pressler'.
so far nothing proven, though.
