    Elvis ~ Black Star

(Words & music by Wayne - Edwards)

Every man has a black star
A black star over his shoulder
And when a man sees his black star
He knows his time, his time has come
Black star don't shine on me, black star
Black star keep behind me, black star
There's a lot of livin' I gotta do
Give me time to make a few dreams come true
    Black star
When I ride I feel that black star
That black star over my shoulder
So I ride in front of that black star
Never lookin' around, never lookin' around
Black star don't shine on me, black star
Black star keep behind me, black star
There's a lot of livin' I gotta do
Give me time to make a few dreams come true
    Black star
One fine day I'll see that black star
That black star over my shoulder
And when I see that old black star
I'll know my time, my time has come
Black star don't shine on me, black star
Black star keep behind me, black star
There's a lot of livin' I gotta do
Give me time to make a few dreams come true
    Black star

Just heard this on Sirius... does anyone know when he recorded it? Sort of prophetic, isn't it?

Vissie...this was the original name for the song. It later became "Flaming Star". This was the title track to the movie, which went thru several names before landing on the final one..."Flaming Star". It was recorded in 1960...although I'm not sure of the exact date. I do know that when he did the revised version as "Flaming Star", it was recorded on October 7, 1960.

Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..

Thanks Queenie On Sirius, they just played it as Black Star (I believe?) I didn't hear them refer to it as Flaming Star. Was the name actually changed at one point?

Yes, it was. It actually began as "Black Star", and thus the recording. But the movie went thru many title debates...Originally, it was supposed to be called "Flaming Lance". Then it went to "Flaming Heart", then "Black Heart", and then "Black Star". That is when Elvis recorded the song. Then when the powers that be changed it yet again to "Flaming Star"...he went back into the studio and re-recorded it as "Flaming Star". There were also two songs "Britches" and "Summer Kisses, Winter Tears" that were originally recorded for use in the movie, but were later cut out.

Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..

    Thanks so much Queenie!

But they didn't change the words to the song, right? Because the version I just heard was just as I typed it up above ~

Right Kelly...not an impressionable title...guess that's why they changed it.

No, not really, because he did record it as such to begin with.
