Marie is his 6 year old daughter. Her mom (his ex wife I would assume) tore apart their home when she left him and took his daughter with her.
Well, I believe he is referring to his daughter. Could be wrong, but always what I thought anyway...!
Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..
he would be referring to his daughter, and Elvis didn't sing this did he? Someone else sang it.
Thank you so much to everyone...that makes ALOT of sense now!

Yea, Elvis recorded it in the 60's. I love this song!
IMO, it's his signature song, bein from Memphis. It made sense for him to do it.
It's kinda strange though that he's singin about a 6 year old daughter named Marie and a broken home, in Memphis. That's exactly what happened to his real life. Wierd.

I believe it was Elvis who introduced his (then) friend, Johnny Rivers, to the song.
It was when E was recording this and others from that time period.
Anyway, Rivers liked it, recorded it, and Elvis heard it on the radio. . . . . Elvis was unhappy and never had anything to do with Rivers again.
I want to say Elvis told Rivers it would be his (E's) next single.
It could be all untrue, but it makes for a good story![]()
Well, IMHO, it's far from being Elvis' signature song. There are about 2 dozen Elvis Hits that could be considered his signature song.
Well, Technically, Lisa was really 4 years of age when Priscilla and Elvis separated and 5 years of age when her parents divorced !!!It's kinda strange though that he's singin about a 6 year old daughter named Marie and a broken home, in Memphis. That's exactly what happened to his real life. Wierd.![]()
I have heard this song sung by Jerry Lee Lewis.. but I like much more Elvis' version![]()
