Help me find the party trying to get in touch with me
She could not leave her number but I know who placed the call
My uncle took the message and he wrote it on the wall

Help me information to get in touch with my marie
Shes the only one would phone me here from memphis, tennessee
Her home is on the southside, high upon a ridge
Just a half a mile from the mississippi bridge

Help me information more than that I cannot add
Only that I miss her and all the fun we had
But we were pulled apart because her mom did not agree
Tore apart our happy home in memphis, tennessee

The last time I saw marie she was waving me goodbye
With hurry home drops on her cheek that trickled from her eye
Marie is only six years old, information please

Try to put me through to her in memphis, tennessee

Marie is his 6 year old daughter. Her mom (his ex wife I would assume) tore apart their home when she left him and took his daughter with her.

It's a Chuck Berry song. Elvis sang a fine "Countryish" version of it and it is available on many compilations, most notably "Elvis For Everyone".

Yea, Elvis recorded it in the 60's. I love this song!

IMO, it's his signature song, bein from Memphis. It made sense for him to do it.

It's kinda strange though that he's singin about a 6 year old daughter named Marie and a broken home, in Memphis. That's exactly what happened to his real life. Wierd.

Because you say so? Many Chuck Berry songs were heavy country influenced. This is one of them. Sorry.

I believe it was Elvis who introduced his (then) friend, Johnny Rivers, to the song.

It was when E was recording this and others from that time period.

Anyway, Rivers liked it, recorded it, and Elvis heard it on the radio. . . . . Elvis was unhappy and never had anything to do with Rivers again.

I want to say Elvis told Rivers it would be his (E's) next single.

It could be all untrue, but it makes for a good story

Well, IMHO, it's far from being Elvis' signature song. There are about 2 dozen Elvis Hits that could be considered his signature song.

It's kinda strange though that he's singin about a 6 year old daughter named Marie and a broken home, in Memphis. That's exactly what happened to his real life. Wierd.
Well, Technically, Lisa was really 4 years of age when Priscilla and Elvis separated and 5 years of age when her parents divorced !!!

    It's co-incidence, rather than ironic.

Irony is a lifesaver drowning at a swimming carnival.

Or Paris Hilton dying of a brain haemorrhage ...
