Are You Lonesome Tonight? Hampton 9 April 1972

Recently I rediscovered 'The Lost Performances' video. I think that the version of 'Are you lonesome tonight' is the most moving live version of the song - you can actually see the hurt in Elvis' eyes. What do you think?

I agree, in fact, I prefer this version over the studio version.
In comparison the studio version is well polished, in that Elvis (a young man who had possibly not yet felt the pain of being truly heartbroken) and the band had many takes to nail this track down.
Whereas the live version is sung by a man with more life experience, currently undergoing his own painful separation. On that April evening he only had one shot at it......and he delivered, an impassioned, inspired performance.
I love the line, "honey, you lied when you said you loved me"
"Mr Dickman certainly can take care of himself."

I dont see why this fantastic concert cannot be released in its entirety, it was obviously filmed all the way through.

A very good performance, without the usual fun during the dialogue. Elvis does a serious rendition for sure!

And yes, this entire concert should be released together with the On Tour movie!

thanks a lot for the link..

he still looked so great even you can see the sadness in his eyes. and the song is so emotional.. it was close to bring some tears to my eyes and that was just after few weeks when Cilla left him.. so i really can think it was really difficult time for him.

here are a great performance from the same concert:
