Just stumbled onto this article...not sure how old it is, but I found it interesting. Although I warn you...it very well could be considered controversial...

l felt it too, thanks for bringing this up for people. I'am starting to think that some people are more interested in talking about elvis downslides, there forgettitng elvis was and will always be a lengend even in his faults.
So true my friend...You know, I think I shall re-read that article in the morning...perhaps I will be better able to figure out their angle...
I am just not sure of what they are getting at...
...but I am hoping that it will sound better to me tomorrow
Goodnight Jen...

goodnight my friend!
Well, I have re-read this article...and I find that I am still a bit confused.I, of course, agree with the fact that Elvis has been too "commercial" since his death...and yes, I do feel that Pris was the ring leader in that fiasco...(sorry Jen, but it's how I feel...
). I must say that even though I am not a Lennon fan...Yoko certainly seems to be on top of things as far as John's legacy and estate go. (I find it a bit tacky that she is selling his blood soaked shirt..but hey, what do I know?
) Other than that, she seems to have managed to maintain his image almost solely on the merit of his creativity...his music, his humanitarian efforts, ect. But then again, she IS John's widow...truthfully. Perhaps that has made the difference...not sure.
I just wish that Elvis' life and legacy had been handled as neetly as Lennon's... Of course, we have a lot more people to blame for the posthumous image of Elvis...the MM, for one...Pris, for another, and the list goes on and on and on....
Daddy, I miss you more every day. You will always be my hero..
interesting article and interesting site....there is alot on there I'd like to see.....yes it shows Priscilla AND Lisa as money hungry...and exploiting Elvis to their benefit - $$....no comments other than this....thanks for sharing this article.
Excellent article Queen?s and so full of truth that i can?t understand how any fan of Elvis and his talents (even though i know they have the right to do so) can like this woman and what she has being doing all these years.

say how you feel, l can't change your mind, but l'am disgreeing. Priscilla doesn't have alot of years left in her, what's going to happen when she's gone?? What will happen to graceland?? Or better yet what will happen when lisa's gone?? those are questions to be asking if instead of what priscilla did and done.

Jen, I totally see your point, and I do understand and respect your feelings toward Pris...But to answer your question about "what will happen to Graceland"...I think that is pretty self-explanatory. Graceland is going to go on. Whether Pris, Lisa, her children or their heirs are handling it...as long as it continues to make money, it will be as is. At least I think so...
Don't forget that Sillerman has a hand in it now...
...so I don't see it going bye-bye any time soon. Besides that...Elvis is now marketed like any other commodity...so they are going to make sure that the money-machine stays in operation. Graceland will remain a tourist attraction as long as they make a profit....and honey, that will probably be longer than any of us live...

Great article, thank's King's Queen, I only find this very regrettable:
Both have since attained international deity. John Lennon's deity had been given it proper place in musical and cultural history. However, Elvis Presley's impact seems to have been lost amidst his legend ness.
The distinct contrast between the legacies of these consummate entertainers can be attributed (over and beyond the myths) to their widows, Yoko Ono Lennon and Priscilla Beaulieu Presley.![]()
Lennon was exploited plenty by Yoko when he was alive. Read a book by a certain Mr. Goldman if you doubt it.
To say that one "widow" has handled the image of her late husband better than the other is making it too simple. That being said I do agree that Priscilla's book/movie did nothing to help the EP image, and I agree that Elvis never had it in mind for Priscilla to control his posthumous career in any way.
"I can't see my reflection in the water. I can't speak the sounds that show no pain. I can't hear the echo of my footsteps. I can't remember the sound of my own name" - Tomorrow Is A Long Time
Fortunately for Yoko, John Lennon left behind lots of truely unreleased recordings with new songs which have not been heard anywhere. Also they have Beatle recordings which have still not been released which also have songs never heard anywhere. So she has much more creatively to work with to keep Lennons image about the music. She also has much more control of the music itself. Especially his solo work after the Beatles. In Elvis's case Sony owns everything before 1973-they do not have to consult The estate about anything concerning the re-releases, box sets, so they are out of that loop. There is very little (if any) unreleased new songs. Hopefully someone has some rehearsals tapes that may have a new song or two someday but right now its doubtful. So Yoko is in a better position in some ways to keep John Lennon more about music and less about the latest new "Collectors Plate "collection.
Another position of strength that Yoko started from was Lennon had plenty of money when he was killed. He had much more ownership of his music (except for the Beatle music which he and Paul signed away songwriting rights to a publishing company early in their careers Micheal Jackson now owns the bulk of that) His son by Yoko, Sean, was set for life no matter what.
We all know how Elvis's estate was near broke in 81. So Yoko (who I have never been much of a fan of) has had a little more leeway to pick and choose in some ways. IMO
l find this all to confusing for me.
Wow, quite an article but very biased in Lennon and Yoko's favor. I also heard she exploited John quite a bit while he was alive too, in fact I heard she really ran him and took over his career, hence the breakup with the other members of the band. She did seem to have done a better job of preserving his image though but for the same selfish reasons I'm sure......sorry Jen.
