Thread: phone interview with Elvis Presley's right hand man

I think all these guys have their good points and their bad points. They all still make their living one way or another off Elvis and his memory. They all-each and every one-have had a story in flux for 30 years. It evolves and, at times, contradicts with previous accounts. Its easy to see how some things would be open to a difference of opinion. So I will not single out any for the title "worst" of the insiders. But I have an opinion that none of them tells the100% truth and none of them knows the 100% truth. They are now doing what they have to do (right or wrong) to have a steady income. I guess Elvis would want them to provide for their families.
But I think there may be things they did not understand and so their take on them was gut level and not intellectual.
IMO none of these guys were looking for answers to questions like "the meaning of life"-none carried the weight of "They call me king, WHY ME?"
They were jesters and footman who had little idea what went on in the kings mind- and what its like to walk in a kings shoes.

Thank You Kpm. That Is The Best Explanation I Have Read In A Long Time. These Guys Are Just Regular Guys That Were Not On Elvis' Quest So They Didn't Understand Him. It Really Doesn't Matter What They Say. We All Have Our Own Personal "what Elvis Is Really Like." I Think We May Be Closer To The Truth Than These Guys Ever Were.

    amen to that, KPM!

maybe we could add to the terms 'hangers-on', 'leechers', 'jesters', 'footmen' the 'sycophants' ...

there are several things i dislike about the 'inner' (or 'outer') circle:

1/ many claim to have known better about elvis' problems back then than himself - but no one uttered CONSTRUCTIVE critisicm. either they kept their mouth shut for obvious reasons or they chose as 'cure' writing EWH.

2/ they all more or less critisize elvis in many ways (exception: charlie hodge ) - but they all more or less still use him / his name to some extent for making money.

3/ when it comes to 'diamond' joe ..... JESUS, look at all the COAs (certificate of authentication) he provides for practically ANY item that's sold or auctioned. no matter if it's a toothcap, a piece of wardrobe, jewelry or whatever. he either has the most magnificent memory of mankind to remember each and any single item elvis has posessed / bought / given as present / touched / looked at in over 2 decades.

or joe was sitting / standing / lying / walking / swimming / running / jumping / driving next to him 24 h a day, carrying a HUGE pile of paper and taking notes on ANYTHING.

it's just hilarious to claim he's able to 'identify' each object to an extent that would allow providing a COA. i feel he is really cheating not only on elvis, but also on the buyers / fans. and be it 'only' by claiming to be practically omniscient.

if he has such a maginifent bunch of little grey cells .... why do his recollections often deceive him when it comes to telling variations of the same events?

since i was not there .... i don't know if or if not joe really was on the colonel's payroll and acting as 'spy' for him. but IF any of the MM characters would fit into that role - two-faced 'diamond joe' ranks on top of my list.

it is such a pity that elvis did not have the right touch in picking loyal 'friends' - REALLY loyal friends!

    just my 2 pennies.
