yea...speak up we didn't hear you!!

The surrounding area around Graceland is dirty looking and they could use a few decent places to eat, etc. but I don't think the Graceland Plaza is dumpy at all, I had a nice time there. Heartbreak Hotel just needs someone to take care of it - they are letting it fall into disrepair which is stupid because they certainly make big bucks off us Elvis fans and it's always packed.

I do agree to an extent about needing more around there to do...when not visiting Graceland I would have liked maybe an Elvis theater or an Elvis themed Diner or something....(no, not what they have in the plaza)....

    RUMORS

These are just rumors and speculations as to what will be part of the new redevelopment plans for Graceland and the Whitehaven area.

-a pedestrian bridge to be built over Elvis Presley Boulevard. The city and state would fund this. Possibly costing anywhere from $2 million to $4 million. Depending how big and fancy it would be.

There is a definite need for this as it would make crossing Elvis Presley Boulevard much safer for visitors.

-a residential buyout. Bob Sillerman is rumored (by media and sources) to be putting together a financial plan to buy up residential homes and lots around the Graceland mansion and area to expand the property.

Word is that those home owners to get more than what their land is worth. The most targeted area would be the surrounding area that boarder the estate right now with more possible buyout to follow.

-a petting zoo. Why a petting zoo some may ask? Well because of Elvis' strong love for animals.

EPE has been in talks for awhile now with making a home for abandoned animals at Graceland and just recently Priscilla Presley made the remark that they "want to make Graceland more fan friendly and to attract more children".

Elvis once had a pet chimpanzee named Scatter and he also had peacocks running around the grounds of Graceland along with horses. Having a petting zoo as part of the plans makes sense and would attract more children (as Priscilla alluded to) and young adults.

-"A Beale Street where you can take the kids". That's how EPE's CEO Jack Soden described it during Elvis Week to the media.

So what did he mean? Rumors and speculations are that it will have upscale restaurants, night spots, retail and shopping, hotels and resorts along the strip of Elvis Presley Boulevard. Think Branson Missouri.

As I have said numerous times, Elvis is nothing more than a dollar in their pocket as far as they are concerned...I guess THIS proves that my theory was right And not only have they insulted "the original fanbase" by having that attitude, but BAM! they have also insulted the heck out of Elvis by concluding that new fans must be drawn to him by way of "attractions". Also, I feel that removing the ghetto from that area falls directly on the shoulders of those who are elected officials of that county and state...but then again, why do that when they can just ride Elvis' coat tail too....?

I respect your opinion that "it's already seen as a circus and theme park to an extent"...but I disagree with you. If paying homage and showing respect to the man and his memory is considered a "circus atmosphere"...then I have been taught wrong I suppose. Perhaps one should look back to the original orchestraters of the "circus"...hmmm and who would we have to thank for that????
I agree with you 100%. It's sad. When the rumours about the 'plans' came up I am sure everything was already signed, sealed and delivered. I wonder what they had to pay or promise to get their building licenses a little faster than others.....

Just what the world needs ... not!

Part of the charm of Beale St (at least in the old days) was that you could go there and listen to blues and rock etc, in a slightly dodgy neighbourhood.

It's already family-oriented enough, thank you very much! Must we sanitise everything so the ankle-biters can enjoy it to? Shouldn't some things be left for adults to enjoy in peace?
    Getlo - cute'n'cuddly

I didn't have time to visit Beale Street while in Memphis back in June, so I can't really comment on that.....wish I would have went though.

Here's what I know so far.

Sillerman is gonna expand the GLand grounds to over 100 yards , that's already bein done, and build somethin like an Elvis world attraction park, but without rides. I was told it's gonna be more of a complex of buildings, like museums, and attractions.

An Imax theater aint outta the plans yet. I was told one could be planned because of some demands for one at GLand.

He wants the city officials to invest in the area and turn it into somethin like a Branson, MO or Gatlinburg or another Beale St., where tourism will skyrocket.

I've heard he's talked to Ripley's and others to bring new attractions to the area.

He's tryin to convince lawmakers to change their mind about casinos in Memphis as well. But I doubt that will happen.

So that is what GLand stood for.

I was confused. That's either laziness or disrespectful, take your pick.
