Its so strange until this last year I never anywhere heard of Elvis buying a farm- in all the 100s of books and interviews on Elvis I just do not remember anyone talking or writing about a farm in Nashville. The ranch in Mississipi is mentioned in most books also homes in Palm Springs and California. So this is kind of a mystery to me.

Same here, I've never heard of Elvis purchasing a working farm anywhere and this is not the Circle G Ranch from pictures I have seen.

Wonder is this is for real or a hoax?

That also occured to me. Somewhere I heard it was Vernon who actually bought this farm-which to me would even be more surprising since it would have to be Elvis's money which purchased it. Still I think it would get a mention somewhere even if Vernon bought it.

This was discussed at an earlier time. I think Elvis supposedly purchased it for Vernon. I never heard for sure if that was confirmed. Apparently, it didn't sell the first time around or the new owner is selling again.

May be it's old Mac Donald's farm ?

Thats probably where I heard the Vernon connection in this. The strange thing is if Elvis was having all the money problems you'd think this would get a mention somewhere in all the books. The Mississippi ranch is always spoke of as a huge cash drain for the price of the ranch and all the extras Elvis bought in connection to it. IMO if true I think it shows there is a lot of things that were not common knowledge among the insiders.

Very good point, if this is true, obviously the MM didn't know about it or they for sure would have mentioned it in all their books....hhmmmm....makes a person wonder what else they "don't" know....

No, I just don't feel that this is on the level. As KPM stated, the Circle G was sold because it was a drain on the finances plus if Elvis had bought a farm for Vernon wouldn't we have heard or at least read about him spending time there and what he did with the place? The tabloids if no one else would have printed all kinds of articles and pictures about it.

I have to agree, something about this just does not seem on the level.

    It was Vernon's property

    Former Presley Farm For Sale
    By: Elvis Australia - March 5, 2007
    Source: Business Wire

The Nashville-based Honky Tonk Hall of Fame has announced they are facilitating the sale and marketing of another property once owned by Elvis Presley's father as well as one once owned by Johnny Cash.

Presley's father, Vernon, purchased the 270 acre farm in the rolling hills one hour east of Memphis in 1974, and sold it only six days before his son died in August of 1977.

"This is just an incredible property," says Stephen Shutts of The Honky Tonk Hall of Fame. "It's no secret that Elvis's money bought it for his father as kind of a big toy for Vernon, who kept nearly 60 cattle on the farm. I walked around the farm myself and wanted to quit everything I was doing and move there. It's just fantastic."

Elvis was a frequent visitor to the property which includes a 1940 era log cabin, a barn and five lakes and ponds. One pond is stocked for fishing.

    WELCOME!!!

Elvis Presley Magnificent 270 Acre Farm.

In 1974 Elvis was touring America, his father Vernon would accompany him on several dates. During the days Elvis would be off tour he and his father would find their solitude at Graceland or on this 270 acre working farm. The farm was under the ownership of the Presley?s from 1974 to 1977. Ironically this farm was sold just six days prior to Elvis passing. During the three years the Presley?s owned this working farm (acquired with 59 heifers, 14 steer, 2000 bales of hay, Allis-Chalmers tractor and a bush hog) it was frequented by Vernon and occasionally by Elvis.

The beautiful, rolling 270 acres has five ponds (one currently stocked), hay fields, a working 1940?s horse barn and 39,000 newly planted pine trees. To this day, the current owner has used the 1940?s cabin as a vacation retreat. The cabin has a second floor, screened in porch, two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. The backyard shows an immense outdoor barbecue pit.

The 270 acres, located in Fayette County is a one-hour drive from downtown Memphis. There are a few nearby rural farm communities with historic buildings on the main streets, including the town of Moscow, TN. The drive through the neighboring communities and quiet countryside further enhance the appeal of this historic property. Knowing Elvis and his entourage would make the drive from Memphis and stop at some of the still existing restaurants and gas stations along the way make this a region truly frozen in time.

The property would make an ideal corporate retreat, gated community with exclusive homes, golf course, concert venue or vacation property for the Elvis fan who has everything. The natural contour of the acreage would make this farm especially ideal for a concert venue. It goes without saying that the historic aspects of this farm would make the marketing of a concert venue unlimited and in a league of its own.

I'm sure this is a possibility-but truthfully has anyone ever read anywhere of Elvis relaxing on his 270 acre farm in between tours? Any MM member or Linda Thompson, or musicians who played with Elvis ever mention this anywhere. It had to be a very well kept secret if true.

Its my understanding that this was Vernons project and Elvis had little to do with it other than the cash to buy it....I think we had a thread about this in the past.
