Lisa Marie to release Elvis remix song
A new video of Lisa Marie Presley singing In the Ghetto, accompanied in the remix by her dead father, Elvis Presley, will be posted on the internet.
To mark the 30th anniversary of her father's death, Lisa Marie Presley's voice was added to the original version of her father's hit song from 1969. The video duet features Presley and images of her late father.
It will be posted on the AOL internet site Spinner.com, a company spokesman said.
The transcript of an interview with Lisa Marie Presley, will also be posted, AOL spokesman Kurt Patat said. In the interview, Lisa Marie Presley said the project was emotionally stirring.
"We had two hours to lay down my vocals," she says in the interview transcript. "So the next morning, I heard the rough ... and ... I've never cried when I've done anything ... ever ... but I just lost it when I heard it.
"It's pretty organic. There are no bells and whistles - they just added me into the original recording."
Lisa Marie Presley also talks in the interview about how she was offended to see her father's song, Viva Las Vegas used in a Viagra commercial.
"I find that revolting," she said. "Some songs we have no control over. I know we didn't licence that one."
Proceeds from the new song and video will be used to help build temporary housing for the homeless in New Orleans, she said. The project is to be similar to Presley Place, a 12-unit apartment building for the homeless built in Memphis by Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc in 2001.
At the time, Elvis Presley Enterprises was owned by Lisa Marie. She sold 85 per cent of the company two years ago to CKX Inc, which now controls the worldwide business in marketing Elvis' name and image.
Elvis Presley died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977, and thousands of fans are in town this week for the 30th anniversary of his death.
Lisa Marie Presley, 39, is scheduled to attend a concert in Memphis on Thursday that will feature her father performing on video, with live support from his former backup singers and band members.
Her most recent album of her own music was Now What in 2005, but she said in the interview that she hopes to put out a new album soon.
"I'm definitely going to do it," she said. "I just have to figure out the right way. I'm on a clean slate right now - I just got off my label (Capitol Records). So I'm figuring out my next route."

Lisa Marie Presley is commemorating the 30th anniversary of her father's death by singing along with him. Elvis Presley's only child, who has released two albums of her own, will premiere the video of a posthumous duet with her dad on his classic 'In the Ghetto' Thursday night at the the 30th Anniversary Elvis Presley Tribute Concert in Memphis. Starting on Friday, it will be available for viewing here on Spinner.
The video, directed by Tony Kaye ('American History X'), was shot in New Orleans, and, as Presley tells Spinner, she was so touched by the lingering affects of Hurricane Katrina that she decided to make this video more than just a tribute to her dad.
"I landed there to do the video, and I looked around when I got off the plane ... It looks like Katrina happened six months ago," Presley says. "So, that's when it all fell together."
The duet -- both song and video -- will be available on iTunes for downloading, starting Friday. All proceeds will go toward the building of a Presley Place transitional housing development for underprivileged families in New Orleans.
"Families come in and live there, get their life skills together," Presley explains about the charity her family originally started in Memphis. "They get jobs and then they save their money, and about a year later, they move out when they can get back on their feet. It's something [Elvis] was very interested in, because it's kinda where he started from."
Come back Friday to read Spinner's exclusive interview with Lisa Marie Presley and to see the 'In the Ghetto' duet video.

This is the first time I can recall Lisa and Priscilla spending so much time devoted to EP week. They are showing some serious class right now.
That being said, hearing that she only had 2 hours to put this thing together doesn't make me want to expect too much. And did I read that correctly that they put her voice on the original song? Meaning the original version and strings? Hopefully they added new backing track with her voice and EP's included. That's the only way it could be a modern hit imo. But none the less a classic move by Lisa and great to hear her talk so much about her dad in such a positive way.
Ummm, what about 1997?"Don't Cry Daddy".
They just added her voice to the orignal that is what she said. And yes according to her statements she had 2 hrs. to lay the track down. I am expecting great things because it will be great.
As to why Pris is all of a sudden involved w/all things Elvis after harping about the hardship of having the name and wanting her own identity is beyond me. She's been without him (divorce included) longer then she was w/him. JMO![]()
Thats awesome news!!!And by the way i was really put off by the Viagra commercial too!!!(great minds think alike i guess)![]()
Maybe she finally realized she has no identity w/o him.
ROFLMAO OMG I so wanted to say that but was to afraid to, thank you!!!!!Plus also, she knows where the money is and I think that's what it's been about all along w/her.
Lisa on the other hand is great...though I wish she didn't refer to him as "Elvis". jmo
I, thank God, have not seen the Viagra commercial, otherwise I prob. would have foamed @ the mouth w/anger. Who makes these decisions? Who in their right mind thought that song would be good to place on an ad like that?
