Good Morning America with Elvis stuff all week

I think tomorrow (Tuesday) they're supposed to cover the Movie stuff the program guide says "Elvis Movie career" , and Thursday Lisa is going to be on and they're having a report from Graceland there on the whole 30th stuff.

Check your guides if you're interested. Maybe something fun will come out of it.

    GMA in Graceland

Sunday morning they were at Graceland and showed her in The Jungle Room - IN the Jungle Room - not just at the ropes....I guess it's their weather lady? I've never watched GMA - only doing so now because of being at Graceland....and she got to hold Elvis' TCB Ring! 11 carat - the big diamond is - then the smaller ones - not sure how many carat those are.....wow! Elvis sure did it big! I can't wait to see Priscilla and Lisa Marie from Graceland.....

I missed Priscilla who they say was on the morning maybe it'll show up on Youtube or something though . Something is supposed to be on Wednesday too but I haven't heard what yet.

I saw the Priscilla interview this morning. She looked good but didn't have much to say - it was a very short interview.

What I don't like about GMA or Today etc is you have to watch forever and then you get a 5 minute interview and its over. So I'll just hit the DVR and scan through it. So were they just asking her about Elvis week or something Diane?

Oh thanks Dovey, Lisa is the one I didn't want to miss. I will be watching for her tomorrow morning!

JDD, it's on at 7:00 here too but Priscilla wasn't on until 8:00. It was a very short interview, she was of course asked again about Elvis and drugs, but she only said he felt they were safe because they were prescriptions. When asked how did they live together so long without sex, she answered "in those times we had high standards and moral values". I'm not laughing, really I'm not.

Thanks Diane. I just finished running through Tuesdays show. They did a nice piece on the Movies, with short clips of past interviews with Barbara Eden and Ann Margret who both had nice things to say about him, and some movie critic dude who I can't remember. The Critic guy said he watches his early movies like King Creole and it makes him angry because there is so much potential there, that the only later movie where he showed spark was Viva Las Vegas. I like a few of the silly ones quite a bit I must confess, but still I agree with the anger part. I really do think he could have developed into a good actor if given the chance . Sinatra ended up getting an Oscar but Sinatra would put his foot down and make demands for better parts in ways that Elvis just wouldn't. If Sinatra had heard Hal Wallis say He uses Elvis Movies to fund "Good movies" Sinatra would have told him to go Bleep and demanded a shot himself. So the anger I can identify with. There is a lot of things about Elvis we'll never know, and why he allowed this I'll never understand .

Sinatra almost had to beg to get the role in "From Here to Eternity" (the role he got the best supporting actor Oscar for.) The director did not want him. It was a bad time in his career, records weren't selling no one wanted to hire him for anything. Many strings were used to get him that role-some claim his Mafia connections helped secure it. But Frank made a few odd movies himself
"The Kissing Bandit" -"Double Dynamite" with Groucho Marx and the immortal
    "Dirty Dingus Magee"

Thats the thing though Sinatra got an Oscar for a Supporting actor role and he did what he had to do, to get the part . Elvis was offered co starring roles supposedly in films that were better then Harum Scarum and the Colonel nixed it.
Its very frustrating, now I can't see them giving Elvis an Oscar no matter how good he was or wasn't in anything, but he could have and should have left behind a couple more critically acclaimed films then he did. The early stuff suggests he could have pulled it off.

I think he did have an Oscar in him. In a special last night on the TV Guide channel quite a few people felt Elvis had so much natural acting talent that it just needed to be pushed. Obviously the bulk of the roles he got did not do that. In movies like Stay Away Joe-the Trouble With Girls-Change of Habit
Even though the movies were fluff, Elvis himself was very good I thought. All his early movies show he could handle much more than he was given in the 60s (with the exception of Flaming Star and Wild in the Country which had better scripts, casts and directors) Its a shame and you are correct he should have had a few more critically acclaimed moves than he did.

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/ You can view the video clip on today's Elvis segment here. They were very respectful, I was impressed. I missed Priscilla's interview, but will be watching for Lisa.

I saw that same interview about Elvis in the movies JDD and yes it does make you angry when even someone who is in the business says that Elvis had such potential to be a very good actor and never got the chance.
